Today we are going to draw an owl family,
all decked out for holiday fun!
When I create characters, I use a combination of my imagination
and photos from internet sources
like Pinterest, Unsplash, Pixabay and Google
I combine elements I like from the various sources
and then add original touches to make them my own
This needlework canvas from Bedecked and Bedazzled
was part of the inspiration for my owl family
I loved their sweet faces and all the colorful patterns and details
I started my drawing with shapes for the owl faces,
placing them on the paper by their heights,
Mama owl, baby owl and Papa owl
After drawing the cheeks, eyes and beaks,
I added ears and the outline of the heads and bodies
Next came their feet and wings
Now the fun really begins, adding details like hats,
antlers with lights on Junior,
a present and candy canes tucked under Mama and Papa’s wings
Once I had things sketched in, I began to ink over the pencil,
making adjustments as I went
The pencil was erased…
Then I added more details with my pen
I started filling in color with the eyes, leaving a spot of white showing for the highlights
Ink swirls on the cheeks, for a last little detail…

As an Amazon Associate, any purchases made through the links provided may earn me a small commission at no cost to you. Recommendations are based on my own experience and personal use.
I have a combination of marker brands that I use, Prismacolor, Copic, and Ohuhu. Ohuhu are very affordable, and you can get them on Amazon here. I also use colored pencils sometimes to blend colors and soften marker edges.
The dots are made with Kuretake Zig Clean Color Dot pens. I have a set of 12 colors and they are tons of fun to use, one end has a dot tip and the other end has a fine tip. You can order them individually or in sets here
Grab some markers or colored pencils and have some holiday fun!
