Fearless Friday, Busy Bees

In honor of World Bee Day yesterday,

I’ve been busy as a bee creating some bee things

You do NOT have to be an artist to paint these simple bees!

A few dots, a few stripes and

Voilà,

Bees!

I had this metal pitcher in the pantry for watering plants

and decided it could use a makeover…

It’s a little worn with a rust spot here and there

but all that adds up to a little vintage charm, right?

The first step was painting black checks around the base

Just like any project, it’s all about the tools!

A flat square brush makes checks an easy application

The checks are far from perfect

but once the pitcher is finished you’ll never even notice

The bees start with yellow ovals

Then stripes on the body and a black round head

Then a half circle for the tail end

and curved lines ending with dots for the antennas

White wings were painted with a filbert brush

and the “flight trail” was painted with a thin liner brush

From left to right below: small liner brush, filbert brush,

#8 round, #6 round, medium flat square,

and small flat square brush

I painted a bee inside the top of the pitcher and one on the outside of the handle

as well as the ones scattered about on the pitcher sides

A yellow dot ribbon and and checked bow are the final touch

I did go back and outline the wings with black

to make them stand out more

The glasses were painted with the same steps

but I didn’t have to outline the white wings

because they show well on the clear glass

Perfect for dining al fresco!

Print it on white card stock,

cut it into 4 pieces,

and you can use them for gift tags,

place cards or note cards

I used scalloped edge scissors {craft store}

and a hole punch for the tags

Create something BEE-utiful!

Have fun and Be Fearless!

Juicy details

You can use any type of acrylic craft paint on a metal surface, once it dries for 24 hours it’s waterproof except for prolonged soaking

For glassware, you must use paint made for glass like this 16 color set from Folk Art here

Painted glass can be cured in your oven to make it upper rack dishwasher safe, just follow the directions on the paint bottle
