When August rolls around and Summer begins to slide into Fall,
I try to hold on to Summer for as long as I can with tropical decor
Out come the flamingos, pineapples, and palm trees
We always have a buffet for dinner
and I keep the island ready for easy serving and snack grabbing
The end of the island that separates the kitchen from the great room
is raised and it the perfect place for seasonal decor
This is the “Snack Station” part of the buffet
Hungry hands can grab crackers, nuts, or cookies from jars
and put them in a colorful tub or on a plate
This not only keeps traffic out of the kitchen,
but the jars keep a variety of goodies fresh for literally weeks,
so when we are going back and forth to the city
they can be left here waiting until we come back
The palm leaf salad bowl sits ready to be filled for dinner
and I try to keep something sweet and tasty
in the palm tree painted cake dome
A stack of tropical melamine plates sits on a petaled pink and yellow place mat
A Nora Fleming utensil caddy with a blue crab holds serving pieces
Another Nora Fleming flatware caddy with a tropical fish
flanks the plate stack on the other side
The end of the island has space for a cutting board
and plenty of room for platters of food when serving
Tropical glasses are ready for a glass of wine or a Pineapple Cocktail
School starts for my grands
next week so that really makes it feel like summer is over…
but our temps will remain high until October
so I’m holding onto Summer as long as I can!
