Fearless Friday, Fresh Fall Figs

I am traveling this week,

and haven’t had time for art,

so today we’re going to revisit drawing figs,

one of the treasures of fall!

Using photos or real life for a model,

begin with a simple line sketch

Select your color palette so everything you need is at hand

I used a .05 finer liner pen for the sketch

and then markers and colored pencils

Gradually add color,

starting with the darkest darks

or the lightest lights, or both

Markers were used on the bottom,

then light coloring with the pencils in the lightest areas

Build up color as you proceed

Markers provide the consistent areas of solid color

while colored pencils soften and blend

Fresh fall figs!

My favorite way to enjoy figs is on a flatbread,

like this Figgy Bleu Foccacia with Grapes

If fresh figs aren’t available, fig jam is a handy thing to use,  it’s heavenly paired with bacon and blueberries on a thin crust pizza like this Fast & Fabulous Flatbread here

Figgy Bleu Flatbread with Pears and Bacon

is my all time favorite

If you would like a framed print of Fresh Figs, it is available here, with 8 different frame options and in 6 different sizes

“Fresh Figs” is also available on 11 other items in my Society 6 shop

Food is fun to draw and paint,

pick out something colorful and have fun!

Be Fearless!
