Fearless Friday, Fresh Fall Figs

I am traveling this week,
and haven’t had time for art,
so today we’re going to revisit drawing figs,
one of the treasures of fall!

Using photos or real life for a model,
begin with a simple line sketch
Select your color palette so everything you need is at hand
I used a .05 finer liner pen for the sketch
and then markers and colored pencils

Gradually add color,
starting with the darkest darks
or the lightest lights, or both
Markers were used on the bottom,
then light coloring with the pencils in the lightest areas
Build up color as you proceed
Markers provide the consistent areas of solid color
while colored pencils soften and blend
Fresh fall figs!
My favorite way to enjoy figs is on a flatbread,
like this Figgy Bleu Foccacia with Grapes
If fresh figs aren’t available, fig jam is a handy thing to use, it’s heavenly paired with bacon and blueberries on a thin crust pizza like this Fast & Fabulous Flatbread here
Figgy Bleu Flatbread with Pears and Bacon
is my all time favorite

If you would like a framed print of Fresh Figs, it is available here, with 8 different frame options and in 6 different sizes
“Fresh Figs” is also available on 11 other items in my Society 6 shop
Food is fun to draw and paint,
pick out something colorful and have fun!
Be Fearless!

Ain’t they just gorgeous! I just bought a case of figs for salads and snacks :-))
Enjoy!
Both the painting and the foccacia look good enough to eat! Beautiful, and wonderful ideas. Our local figs are only around for the blink of an eye!
Figs can be hard to find, that why I often use a good quality fig jam, good stuff!
I’m a huge fan of figs as well as of your artistic talent. Those recipes look so yummy. I sent your link to the Mister. A huge hint to what I would like to see on the menu this week! Have a wonderful week.
Thank you Katie! I’m sure he will whip up something wonderful!
I love fresh figs with a drizzle of honey and goat cheese. You captured the beauty of figs!
Happy Weekend, Jenna!
Thank you Pam, that sounds divine!
Beautiful–food and art! I hope your travels have been fun!
Thanks Linda!
Beautiful- both your drawings and those amazing looking recipes. We are such fans fo fresh figs and on a trip the Greece our tour guide took us to where we could pick them right off the tree- such a treat
Thanks Judee, I love fresh figs too, how wonderful to have picked them in Greece!
Fresh figs are wonderful. Love your special drawing. Our neighbors gave us figs from their yard.
Oh lucky you, enjoy them!
Love your rendering of figs Jenna! Our neighbor has a huge fig tree which he lets us help ourselves too but the birds and wasps got most of the bounty this year.
Figs are a treat, but pesky critters! We had a bunch of tomato plants this year, but the squirrels apparently love tomatoes, we had to grab them quickly!
Love the painted figs! They’re divine! I love figs but rarely see them fresh.
Fresh figs are hard to find, but I do try to keep fig jam in the fridge, it is heaven with bleu cheese!
