I recently discovered a watercolor artist
who’s style is really eye-popping
I just had to see if I could do something similar…
I started with a pencil sketch
Beginning with the top flower and working down,
drawing shape by shape
Instead of painting the flowers,
I started with the background,
painting different shades of sap green around the flowers
I painted the flowers from the top down
Next I added the areas of yellow
Shades of lilac, peach and orange
This is often where I get carried away~
As the end of the painting draws near
I forget to stop and take photos
and next thing I know it’s done
“Pink Gladiolas” after Kryzsztof Kowalski, 9″ x 12″ watercolor on mixed media paper
Once the watercolor was dry I added a few details
with pink and purple fineliner pens
Mine is not nearly as beautiful as Kowalski’s
with his adept blending and layering of colors,
but it was fun trying some different techniques
Art is all about learning, experimenting
and enjoying the process…
when you think you don’t like it,
or want to quit, walk away,
wait a while and look at it with fresh eyes…
you might just be happily surprised!
Be Fearless!
