Sometimes I see a painting that instantly fall in love with
and the first thing I want to do is paint it myself
We’ve talked before about copying other artist’s work
and it’s important to remember that it is totally acceptable
as long as you credit the artist
and don’t try to pass it off as your own
Below is the inspiration painting
The colors and highlights are what really caught my eye,
and of course flowers are my very favorite subject
It is also painted in a style that is very similar to my own
I started with a canvas that I underpainted with black gesso
and painted the outline of the pitcher
and placed a few of the white flowers
I filled in the pitcher and added more white flowers
plus some blue
Then I laid in the background
so as I painted the flowers they would be in the foreground
Next, blue was painted on the rim and edges of the pitcher
with shades of blue and turquoise
Green stems and leaves
More blue flowers
And more blue petals and flowers
I added the pattern on the pitcher
and a few highlights
A few more touches and it was done
This is my favorite way to paint,
fast and loose with a semi- abstract style…
the entire painting took under 2 hours
{I did step away several times to let the paint dry
and view it with fresh eyes}
“Blue Flowers” 16″ x 20″ acrylic on canvas
Unfortunately I am unable to source the artist who painted this,
I saw it on the internet and took a screen shot
I wish, wish I knew the artist’s name,
I would love to see more of his/her work and thank them properly
If you see a painting you love,
try copying it or use it as inspiration to create your own original,
it’s a wonderful way to learn and practice…
