I often copy other artist’s work when I am inspired by their style
The oil painting below by Karen Appleton
is part of a series of packages she’s painted
I just love her bold and fearless style
and the way she dramatizes the shadows with color
I used it for a model and painted it with watercolor in July
for World Watercolor Month
the prompt was “ribbon”
First a sketch in pencil~
when you’re drawing, don’t think about the subject,
rather concentrate on the different shapes you see
and where they are in relation to each other
Then I began by painting the dark areas with
Daniel Smith extra fine watercolor Neutral Tint
Next the lightest areas are painted with shades of yellow green
Next shades of blue
More color building
“Blue Ribbon” 6″ x 6″ watercolor on mixed media paper
I hope I’ve inspired you to try something new
