With temperatures finally warming up in the US now,
I have been thinking about warm weather food and meals
I’ve also been trying out air fryer recipes
for getting out of the kitchen quickly!
We have been using our Air Fryer for all kinds of things lately,
both HHjr and I love it~
We have the oven style air fryer
that has 3 racks instead of 1 basket
Cooking on racks means the air can flow over and under the food
so it doesn’t need flipping half way during cooking
The other night it was just me for dinner
so, thinking of summer,
I decided to try a bacon wrapped hot dog
I had read a recipe that said it would take about 10 minutes
but mine took 12-13 minutes to get the bacon cooked
and the hot dog ends did get a little burnt…
It tasted ok, but nothing I would rave about or make again…
then I remembered these bacon wrapped hot dogs
with pineapple salsa that bake in the oven
These are baked on a parchment lined baking sheet
and take about the same amount of time~
Now these I will make again!
Elevate a simple dog by stuffing it with Pineapple Salsa
and wrapping it in bacon
Pineapple Salsa is simply sauteed onions and pineapple pieces
You can cook these in the oven, for a simple lunch or supper,
and you can definitely put them on your grill
These hot dogs only take minutes to prepare,
and by cooking them on a parchment lined baking sheet,
the time is basically the same as the air fryer,
but much easier to clean~
all you have to do is throw the parchment paper away
making clean up a breeze!
After cooking bacon wrapped hot dogs in the air fryer and the oven
I learned that’s it’s best to precook your bacon a little
to ensure it gets crispy before the hot dog starts to burn
Put dogs on a toasted bun and cover with additional salsa
BACON WRAPPED HOT DOGS WITH PINEAPPLE SALSA
Ingredients
- hot dogs 1 or 2 per person
- bacon strips 1 per hot dog
- hot dog buns
- chopped pineapple or pineapple tidbits 1/3 cup per hot dog
- sweet onion sliced, 1/4 onion per hot dog
- butter
- olive oil
Instructions
- Cook bacon partially, to render some of the fat but stop cooking when it's still pliable to wrap around hot dogs
- Saute onion in rendered bacon fat or in a little olive oil and butter over medium low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add pineapple and continue to cook on medium low for a few more minutes. Slice hot dogs in 1/2 vertically, leaving one side attached.
- Open slit in hot dog and stuffed with some of the salsa. Wrap hot dog with a slice of bacon and secure each end with a toothpick.
- Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes and check bacon for doneness. Continue to bake for 5-10 more minutes or until bacon is cooked. Time will depend on type of bacon and hot dogs used.
- Toast buns. Place one hot dog in each bun and top with more salsa.
