Photos of Lobster buoys have always grabbed my attention
Probably because they are colorful
and seem like they are full of stories to tell
and I wanted to experiment this subject in different mediums
Using the above photo,
I did a quick rendering with colored pencils,
and finishing it with ink
Buoys in Colored Pencil Quick Sketch
I tried another quick rendering with markers and ink
I have painted buoys in watercolor too
I used a photo from a magazine for reference
In the collage below, left to right,
#1 magazine photo
#2 sketch, yellow background wash
#3, #4 blue & green background washes
#5, #6, adding color to buoys
Then I gradually built up the color layers
This lobster buoy painting by Trip Park was my inspiration
for my acrylic Lobster Buoy Love
I chose gray for the underpainting
I roughly laid in the shapes with white paint
And then applied color, refining the shapes as I went
detailing the ropes
laying in the background
Refining ropes and shadows
