Recipe Box, Crescent Roll Dough, Yay or Nay?

I ran across a very interesting article on Epicurious here about using crescent roll dough

It seems they ran a recipe video on their website for easy breakfast pastries using crescent roll dough, and the readers went wild!

At last count, the video was viewed over 226,000 times, and the reactions were dramatic.  Some were horrified, some disappointed, some offended, some worried, and some were positive reactions, plus every emotion in between.

Ultimately Epicurious’ response was real.  Yes, Epicurious is devoted to good food prepared well.  But they also feel like it’s important to live in the real world where the plumbing leaks, your check bounces, the sitter cancels, and the dog tracks mud all over your new designer rug…

another words, crescent roll dough can be very handy…

Some pointed out that it’s acceptable to use frozen puff pastry, so why not crescent roll dough?  And if you’re using French bread do you have to make the baguette from scratch? And is it acceptable to use store bought herbs, or must you grow your own? Must you buy your vegetables from the farmer’s market or can you get them at the grocery store…it’s really quite endless…

Epicurious responded with this, “We see this recipe as one example of the authenticity we always strive for—honest advice and realistic help when facing the challenge of getting food (or the occasional treat) on the table on a hectic Saturday morning. Because sometimes a from-scratch stack of pancakes just isn’t going to happen.”

Thank you.

So how do you feel about Crescent Rolls?

I rest my case…

Let’s end with this very important point.  Oftentimes convenience foods are not very nutritious, but as Epicurious states, “for the record: we know these  rolls {video for 3 Ingredient Morning Buns here} aren’t exactly nutritious, and we don’t recommend them for breakfast every day.”

I don’t always love to cook, and I do have some go to convenience foods I rely on for ease of preparation.  At my house, we don’t eat treats everyday, and most of the time our table is a rainbow of fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean protein…

And possibly BBQ something…

So, how do you feel about the “crescent roll dough controversy,” Yay or Nay?
