A great way to brighten your January is with citrus fruits
Oranges and grapefruit are at their peak in wintertime USA, and when I drew this citrus laden wreath earlier this fall, it was not only with the holidays in mind, but also the wintertime blues
I was inspired by this photo I found on Pinterest
This beautiful arrangement is from a website whose name I can’t pronounce and language I don’t recognize
here is the link to the site filled with uber creative fruit and floral arrangements
Since this is a complicated subject, I began with a light pencil sketch then ink and color
I began coloring the grapefruit by using a red watercolor pencil but when I began to blend it, I quickly realized that the pen I used to outline the sketch was not waterproof and the ink started to bleed
It turned into a happy accident because I had to figure out a way to cover up my mistake, and used dots of orange, pink and red
I continued to add dots until they sort of all blended together
With the addition of a white gel pen scribble as a finishing touch, I was very pleased with the texture that resulted
Moving on to the kumquats, they were colored with several colors of markers and colored pencils
I used the colored pencils to add blending and shading, using the scumble method, using small circular blending strokes to apply the color
I did the same process for the red and green apples, using marker first, then colored pencil
And to finish, coloring the berries and leaves with shades of red and green markers, leaving parts of the berries white for highlights
Brighten up your winter days with healthy beautiful citrus!
Have a creative day and Be Fearless!
