I have been crazy for tulips lately, and that includes drawing and painting them
I found a picture of vases of tulips on a window sill and couldn’t get to my studio fast enough
I was eager to try another painting with a red underpainting {the first one I did was Pink Flower Therapy here}
I worked fast and loose with a limited palette plus some heavy gel to thicken paint
After establishing the location of the tulips I painted in the background
Filling in the negative spaces so I can go back and add more leaves
Next, back to the petals
The tulips are sitting on the window sill and reflecting in the glass
And last adding the vases with a few strokes of white and bluish gray
Just a few strokes to suggest the glass vases
Less is more!
