Fearless Friday on Thursday, Pink Flower Therapy!

Welcome to Fearless Friday on Thursday this week, tomorrow I will be participating in a special edition of the Tales of the Traveling Tote Adventures, sharing photos of where in the world we have taken a favorite piece of MacKenzie-Childs tableware
It is going to be a lot of fun!
I have been using flowers to brighten up my home and spirits during dreary January and these pink flowers are really perking me up!
I haven’t painted with acrylics lately, and it was so much fun to be in my studio painting, breaking free and loosening up
Instead of doing my normal black or gray underpainting, I decided to try red. A local artist friend of mine, Melanie Morris, often under paints with red and it makes her florals and landscapes really pop
Next I established the composition by adding large flower shapes in light pink
Then came the background, painted quickly with broad strokes in different directions, letting some of the red peek through
Next, some foliage
I prefer to mix my own greens with different combos of Hansa Yellow, Cad Yellow Medium, Cerulean Blue and Ultramarine
I didn’t fuss over the leaves, just general shapes
to finish the flowers, I mixed color into Soft Gel to create an Impasto effect
I added some white to parts of the greenery, indicating another type of foliage, and highlighted the leaves with yellow
Fast and loose, my favorite way to paint!
