Home Decor, Long and Low Decorating Ideas

Last week I got a request from one of my BFFs to help her decorate a new trough/box she bought
I had no idea what she wanted and figured it might be best if we went shopping…to my surprise when I arrived at her house, she had already been shopping…
Her kitchen island was arranged like a professional crafter,
protective newspaper laid down under her new trough,
a glue gun, pliers, scissors, candles, glass hurricanes,
faux succulents, ribbon, and a large bag of mixed straw and vine balls,
plus cotton bolls!
I was very impressed, and told her those things were perfect!!
I couldn’t wait to get started and before long the box was full and she was happy!
I wish I had taken a before picture
but I couldn’t wait to start playing with all her goodies!
Now, I was inspired! {thank you Vicki!}
Think of all the possibilities for long and low centerpieces and vignettes!
I picked up an inexpensive box at HomeGoods and shopped my house to see what I could find…
A bag of moss, glass bottles, and some daffodils…
Inside, outside…
I can tell I am going to have a lot of fun with this simple box!
Long and low arrangements are so perfect for dining, they make the table look beautiful, but don’t get in the way of conversation and sight
This table, Citrus Explosion, does have a few taller elements, but they are purposely placed out of the line of sight across the table
This Spring Garden table also has several vases of flowers, but they are placed at each end of the low central arrangement
This large row boat is one of my favorite things to use for a centerpiece or vignette at the beach house
Flags and orbs, bottles and shells
If you have a round table, use a large shallow basket and fill it with whatever you like!
Don’t forget the lights!
This seaside table has a lantern at one end, anchoring the seashells flowing across the table runner
One of my favorite boat displays is this boat full of rowing ghosts!
An unusual mix of elements keeps things interesting, this fall table featured a silver pumpkin nestled in a magnolia wreath with a runner of cotton bolls
This Thanksgiving table is a long time favorite, literally a long runner of a variety of pumpkins, fruit and gourds with tiny white lights woven through
Thanksgiving Tables, Gobble Gobble
So, next time you are setting a table think long and low
Shop your house, and use things in new ways!
Next week will be full of table top inspiration from Celebrate and Decorate’s annual Valentine’s Day Blog Hop!
❤️ My table will be posting next Wednesday ❤️

Oh Jenna, these are such great centerpieces. Love the long look for a table or vignette. The project you did for your friend is darling and she sure had a good eye for materials to go into her box. Your box filled with daffodils is so pretty, daffs are my favorite flowers. I have several long vessels that would be perfect for doing this. So much pretty design inspiration in this post, it would be hard to choose a favorite. The boat is adorable!
The daffodils you gave me are opening up and will be gorgeous in a few days! the daffs I used for the vases were those cut daffs from Trader Joe’s and they never did open much, but they were a good size for the small bottles in the box arrangement. From now on, I will always think of you when I see daffodils Emily!
Well, that was fun! I love the box with the cotton bolls & vases, and all of the boat styling, as well as the round basket. Oh, and the magnolia with pumpkins on the table…….and……and….:)
Thank you Rita! Of course, now I want a bigger box/trough…
WOW – beautiful and clever centerpieces!! You really put a lot of thought and creativity into each piece!
thanks Patti!
oh such beauty and joy and fun!
I love the texture and variety if items, shapes and sizes…a feast for the eyes.
thanks Sharon, lots of fun!
I am loving my beautifully decorated trough arranged by the most creative person I know who happens to be one of my BFF’s too. Love of the other centerpieces you designed also! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you Vicki, I was so flattered you asked me to help, and you really did inspire me!!!
Jenna, what a fun post! I love them all, but my two favs are the coastal ghosts and the cotton box. The ghosts made me giggle and well… you know me and cotton! Love!
Thank you Kim! Yes, I love cotton too, and was so thrilled that my friend got some for her arrangement~cotton is so perfect for our Southern homes!
I love low for arrangements. Long and low, usually. And for my table, narrow, as it’s a relatively narrow table and if the arrangement is too wide, well, we run out of room! This set up looks terrific. I like what you did for Vicki’s box and was delighted with all the arrangements you shared!
Thanks Jeanie, I am looking forward to styling my box in many different ways, a new toy to play with!
Jenna, a box is a favorite of mine to place flowers. You have beautiful examples of long and low ideas. I always move arrangements if they are too high when we sit down for dinner. But with these gorgeous arrangements, they can stay!
Yes, I have seen you using a similar box/piece on your tables, now of course I want a bigger and better one 🙂
Fabulous Centerpieces!!! Where did you get the large row boat? We have a Lake Home and I would really love to have one.
I have had that boat for so long I don’t remember but it was probably Hobby Lobby or HomeGoods, my favorite haunts!
Great ideas! Love shopping the house, fun to change things up and good to use what we have. Thanks Jenna.
You’re welcome, it’s a great feeling to use things you have in new ways isn’t it!
Such gorgeous centerpieces and tables you have shared! ❤️
thank you Nancy!
You are so good with table decorating, Jenna! You make it look so colorful and inviting!! 🌷🌷🌷
Thank you Jill, besides painting or drawing this is a very favorite way to play 🙂
Boy, is this post timely! I recently came across an old crate, and was wondering what to do with it. I had the idea that I wanted to turn it into a centerpiece of some kind, but had no idea exactly what to do with it. Your tables and centerpieces are always so beautiful and inspiring. I’ve gotten a lot of ideas from reading this post.
Oh good! Of course now I want a better and better box, I really would love a vintage dough bowl…lots of possibilities for seasonal and themed centerpieces, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Love the box you found at HG Jenna! It’s perfect for table centerpieces with flowers, candles and other decorative elements. Your friend’s box turned out beautifully!
thank you Mary, it was such fun to help my friend with her decor, I couldn’t help but be inspired!
