Fearless Friday, Floral Initial

I saw some cute wood letters with flowers
on my friend Niki’s blog
I thought it would be fun to design one on paper
that could be used to make stationary,
gift tags or cards
I browsed Pinterest for ideas and made a collage
to inspire my design
Niki’s wood R is the gray one bottom right,
isn’t it cute?
I kept my design simple with a winding vine of roses
then finished it with splatter and dots
I started with a ruler to get the main lines of the J straight
Then drew the rest of the letter free form,
with a lot of erasing and redrawing until I liked it
Once I liked the J,
I began to add roses and leaves on a vine
Then I erased the pencil where the flower vine is covering the letter outline
I inked over the pencil with a waterproof .05 fine liner pen
and erased the rest pencil lines
I used pink and yellow watercolor for the flowers,
2 greens for the leaves, 2 browns for the vine
Next I filled in the J with a dual tip black marker,
using the small tip to outline
and the broad tip to fill in the large areas
Then dots and splatter
Floral J, 5″ x 7″ watercolor, marker, ink on mixed media paper
I used PicMonkey and added a frame,
then resized it to make a stationary page and a gift tag

Have fun and design your own custom initial~
