A little watercolor play today as I’m gearing up to join the World Watercolor Month July challenge, hosted by Doodlewash
A Charitable Event to Support Arts Education
Featuring the 31 Watercolors in 31 Days Challenge!
Artists all over the world do a watercolor painting or sketch each day during the month (or whenever you can join in), and share their work online for others around the world to enjoy! Use the hashtag #WorldWatercolorMonth when posting your art and use it to meet other watercolor artists around the globe!
World Watercolor Month supports the Zebra Foundation which provides art and music supplies to underprivileged children all over the world so they can express themselves creatively
Let’s paint!
This is a fun exercise,
Wet your paper in several areas and drop in some color,
letting it spread and flow into where you put the water
I did this with an hydrangea bloom in mind
Just enough color to suggest the flower
Then a very loose ink sketch to add detail
“Pink Hydrangea” 9″ x 12″ watercolor and ink on paper
I found the geranium painting, below, on Pinterest and loved the way the shadows grabbed my attention
Unfortunately I was unable to source the photo so I can’t give you the artist’s name
I was excited to see if I could paint it
First, loose shapes suggesting the geranium blooms and shadows
Next I added more layers of color to the blooms, shadows and leaves
Next I picked up a fine liner pen to add more definition and it started to come alive
“Geranium Trio,” after unknown artist, 9″ x 12″ watercolor & ink on paper
This method is a lot of fun, I hope you’ll give it a try!
Be Fearless!
One of my fellow artist blogger friends, Patty Anne, creates beautiful paintings with this technique,
You can visit her here to see her creations
Also another artist blogger buddy, Jodi, Creative Life in Between was chosen to be an ambassador for World Watercolor Month and her precious bee painting was chosen to adorn one of the sponsored products
100% of the proceeds go to the Zebra Foundation. You can purchase a pouch to support the cause here
World Watercolor Month is open to everyone, and even if you don’t want to share your paintings on social media, it’s a great way to motivate yourself to paint/draw/create everyday
Drawing or painting everyday can make a huge difference in your skills!
There is even a fun list of prompts that you can use for inspiration, or you can paint and post whatever you want!
I will be joining these fabulous parties and blogs:
