We are over halfway through World Watercolor Month, celebrated during the month of July, and I have had lots of fun experimenting with different watercolor supplies, paper and techniques
I even have a doodle filled July calendar page in my sketchbook that I’m trying to add to everyday
I’ve tried to stick to the daily prompts for subject matter
The prompt for day 15 was “Monochromatic”
painting with only tones of one color,
something I had never done before
I used this beautiful vignette from Shirley @HousepitalityDesigns for a model
I painted flowers on a sheet of music for day 17’s “Music” prompt
I have painted a lot of dog portraits in acrylic,
but never in watercolor,
so for day 14’s prompt “Furry Things”
I tried to capture Mary’s sweet “Lola”
Today we’re going to paint some impressionist style zinnia’s from Pam’s garden
This is going to be the daily painting for tomorrow’s prompt
“Splashes of Color”
We’re not going to worry about the background, we’re just going to isolate and spotlight a few of these happy zinnia’s dancing in the garden
First, small yellow shapes for the flower centers
This establishes your composition
Next very loose dabs of pink and red color to indicate the petals
More petals
Then additional purple zinnias
Time for stems
Leaves
And a few splatters of color
“Zinnia Garden” 9″ x 12″ watercolor on paper
Pick up your paintbrush and try something new and just for fun!
Thank you Pam, Mary, Shirley, and Lidy for all the gorgeous photos you share!
