Let’s take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle
and relax with a cup of “Christmas Tea”
The inspiration photo for this drawing is a holiday kitchen towel by Mary Lake-Thompson
I started the sketch by drawing the ribbon bow first
Then I filled in the rest of the arrangement behind it
I changed a few elements, and as I inked the pencil sketch, I made adjustments
After erasing the pencil sketch I started with the highlights
using a watercolor brush pen
Then added light red areas with a watercolor brush pen
Then darker reds
I blended out the apples with a water brush pen
Next I added brown stems for the greenery
The greenery came to life with short quick strokes with several shades of green
I blended out the holly leaves with more greens and a water brush and painted the pear
Next I added a black and white checked pattern on the base of the teapot
Using a gray watercolor brush pen, I added shadow on the teapot
Then blended it out with a water brush pen
I added some detail to the tea cup and colored the darkest areas with red
I blended the red out onto the rest of the cup and then finished it with a colored pencil
Shading was added around the arrangement base
Then green polka dots for the background
