Fearless Friday, Bicycle Basket

Lately I’ve been experimenting with a looser style,

I call it “Dab & Scribble”  🎨 🖋

A little dab of color and then some ink scribbles

Depending on the subject, sometimes I sketch first,

and sometimes I just start with strokes of color as I did with the fox

A magazine photo was my model

Since this is a complicated subject, I did a partial pencil sketch first

After laying out the general outline of the bike and basket

I added dabs of yellow to begin painting the flowers in the basket

Then blue and purple

Orange

Green leafs and stems

The shapes are loose, just enough to suggest what the eye sees

Dark green helps make the flowers pop

Next I inked the bicycle and basket

After erasing the pencil lines I added washes of color to the bike and basket

I’m not worried about staying in the lines with this loose style

The background grasses are suggested with large loose pale green strokes

The distant lavender is indicated with pale lilac shapes

Foreground blades of grass, a few more ink details, and it’s done

“Bicycle Basket” 8″ x 8″ watercolor and ink on mixed media paper

Have fun and Be Fearless!
