Fearless Friday, Nutcracker

When time is limited and I want to get a quick art session in,

I like to use pens and markers

I keep them handy on a tiered tray by my favorite spot

Today we are going to draw and color a nutcracker,

just like we did with the Festive Snowman last week, and this time

I made a printable for you to color and experiment with

Once again, you start with simple shapes and “build” your nutcracker

My lines were getting a little wonky so I grabbed a 6″ ruler for guidance

A short ruler is easy to store or put in your travel kit and comes in handy

Once I was happy with his body, I added details

Then I used a fine liner pen to go over the pencil sketch

and erased the pencil

Here is a free printable for you to color

you can download it here

When coloring I always start with the colors I know I want to use~

in this case, black

I put a patch of gray in the center of his hat for a highlight

I added brown for his hair and beard and yellow for his gold accessories

I colored his shoes the same way I did his hat

I decided to go with blue and red for his uniform

and added diagonal lines to make stripes on his legs

to make him a little more festive

Candy cane legs!

I colored his face and eyes

Then I decided to add green to make him a Christmas nutcracker

Then my favorite dotted background to finish

Nutcracker, 9″ x 12″ with ink and marker on mixed media paper

Coloring is a nice way to relax while you’re watching Christmas movies 🎄

Have fun and Be Fearless!
