Fearless Friday, Lollipops

Today’s painting was inspired by artist Leah Gardner

When I discovered some of her paintings on Pinterest,

I flipped over her use of dramatic lighting

Peach Jelly by Leah Gardner {oil painting}

I decided to try doing one of her lollipop paintings with watercolor

I took a screen shot of it and printed it for reference

I didn’t do a pencil sketch,

just dove in and began with the red pop,

then the blue and yellow,

leaving the highlight areas white

Next I added the shadows and lollipop sticks

the background was added around the pops

I used Dr. Martin’s Bleed Proof White to fix the red lollipop stick

It is a great thing to use to fix mistakes or add white highlights

More dark layers were painted on the pops

and it was done

“Lollipops” after Leah Gardner, 5″ x 6″ watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper

Have fun and

Be Fearless!
