I did this painting for the Doodlewash June challenge
the prompt was “chrysanthemums”
My inspiration photo is by Jerry Wang on Unsplash here
I loved the blurred background and the crisp edges of the one bloom in focus
I did the background first by laying down clear water all over the paper
Then I dropped in a little green
Then pink
Then a little yellow where I wanted the focal point to be
After the paper was dry,
the bloom shapes were painted
Then stems and leaves
More leaves
Details to the main flower
Petals suggested on the other flowers
Some darks for the final touches
“Chrysanthemums” 9″ x 12″ watercolor on 140 lb. cold pressed paper
Painting fast & loose is a lot of fun!
