Fearless Friday, Watercolor Chrysanthemums

I did this painting for the Doodlewash June challenge
the prompt was “chrysanthemums”
My inspiration photo is by Jerry Wang on Unsplash here
I loved the blurred background and the crisp edges of the one bloom in focus
I did the background first by laying down clear water all over the paper
Then I dropped in a little green
Then pink
Then a little yellow where I wanted the focal point to be
After the paper was dry,
the bloom shapes were painted
Then stems and leaves
More leaves
Details to the main flower
Petals suggested on the other flowers
Some darks for the final touches
“Chrysanthemums” 9″ x 12″ watercolor on 140 lb. cold pressed paper
Painting fast & loose is a lot of fun!
Be Fearless!

Jenna, as always I love your watercolors and Fearless Friday! I also love the masks. Wishing you a lovely Friday!
Thank you Pam, I’m excited about the masks… expecting fishermen for the weekend! 🐟
I love it when you paint! This is such fun — and a good reminder to me to be patient and let the background dry before going to town! I’m going to check out your masks. It’s not like I’m short on any, but I really love your colors!
Thank you Jeanie, I usually struggle with the background at the end of the process, I really enjoyed painting it first!
Watching the progression of the painting is like watching magic! It’s both the journey and the destination that are important. I love this painting!
Thanks so much Linda!
Oh I’ve missed these fearless friday posts and seeing your painting process! LOVE! And oh those beautiful face masks! What a great idea! <3
Thanks Jodi, I’ve missed you too!
