Fearless Friday, Happy Halloween and a Pitcher of Flowers

Happy Halloween, Day of the Dead, and All Saints Day!

If you celebrate Halloween are you expecting Trick or Treaters?

Trick or Treaters

Have you carved pumpkins and hung spooky spider webs?

Does your house look haunted and creepy?

I was feeling especially Witchy the other day…

When I feel Witchy, I paint flowers!

Let’s start with a pencil sketch

I indicated some shapes with dashed lines

This is a great way to establish the shapes or positions

and it’s easy to re-adjust them

I began by laying in a deep green background

to establish the light shapes of the hydrangeas and pitcher

Next I added the darkest flowers, the purple thistles

I began to add the rest of the flowers around these first 2 steps

I added the large roses with broad loose strokes

and even though the pink bled into the peachy rose,

I let it dry to repair or work around later

Green leaves were added,

and I added suggestions of yellow blooms

and began added shadows to define the white hydrangeas

The white pitcher got light gray washes where it is in the shadows

and a sharp edge with Payne’s Gray

More details are added to the hydrangeas

Pitcher of Flowers, 7″ x 10″ watercolor on mixed media paper

There is nothing better than beautiful flowers to brighten and uplift!

So, let’s go trick or treating!!

Be Fearless!
