I am participating in World Watercolor Month,
a watercolor painting everyday in July
Yesterday’s prompt was “Breathe”
which instantly made me think of taking a deep breath,
a happy sigh,
when I look at palm trees and the beach
The art print below by John Clark was my inspiration photo
It is fun to interpret the daily prompts
and stretch your imagination
I started with the palm tree,
painting the palms first and then the trunk
I loved the bright colors in the inspiration photo
so I purposely painted the water with bold strokes of color
For the sky I started by painting the bottoms of the clouds
with pale lavender
Then I painted the sky with cobalt blue,
leaving the paper white above the lavender shapes
to finish the clouds
The palm leaves and trunk got detailed with darker strokes and
I wanted to only suggest the flowers and foliage in the foreground
so they wouldn’t draw attention away from the focal point,
the palm tree
A few dots and strokes of color to indicate the flowers,
sand and grasses
