To say goodbye to 2021,
let’s take a look back at different watercolor techniques
Just click on the highlighted painting titles
to go to that tutorial
I feel like you really have to be fearless when painting with watercolor
Tropical Breeze was painted without a sketch,
and is a series of abstract shapes and bright colors
The painting below, Less is More,
is also painted with loose abstract shapes
and then the elements were inked over to help define them
It’s fun to make a strong focal point
by only painting one part of a drawing
as in Close-up
You can make your painting dramatic by emphasizing the shadows
like this Geranium Trio
And Perfume
I love to paint fresh fruit and vegetables too
like these summer Garden Tomatoes
You can use liquid masking fluid to preserve white highlight areas
I often use splatter for a finishing touch,
perfect for Fast and Loose Tulips
You can also splatter your paper first
and then turn it into a subject like this Flaming Flamingo
The wet into wet technique can create magical effects
like FloraBunny’s fur
Another fun effect can be achieved
by letting the paint run and drip
So get your watercolors out and play a little…
Be Fearless and Happy New Year!
