Creations, Sweet Home Alabama Tree

Do you decorate the same way every year or change it up?  Last year I used cream, gold and silver, but this year I decided to add some red, inspired by these stockings I found at Target

door stocking thepaintedapron.com

I saw a tree at a local shop trimmed with cotton garland and all sorts of organic elements, pine cones, birds and owls~ they called it the “Alabama Tree”

What a wonderful idea, a tree themed to your state, or your hometown…

I found the cotton garland on clearance at Grandin Road after the holidays last year, and couldn’t wait to create my own Sweet Home Alabama tree this year.  With the newly added red to my color scheme, this tree would practically decorate itself!

I wrapped it in the cotton garland

Now for the fun!

At the very top sits a red cardinal, which are a common sight in my backyard, along with a pinecone and white washed jingle bells

An Alabama “A” and some red and white stripped balls, mix in with the cotton and gold lettered gift tags

I found these pink pigs at Home Goods, and fell in love…aren’t they just the cutest?

I added some red Alabama elephants and shiny footballs from my Football Tree

and ornaments fashioned from some Sweet Home Alabama beer coasters

For one last touch I added some chevron patterned state of Alabama ornaments

Gift wrap was glued on to a  cardstock shape of the state, using the same method I used for the Advent Tree numbers here

I was planning to just pile some cotton around the base of the tree, and then I found this  cute basket [$10] and couldn’t resist

The basket would be really easy to recreate~just a few buttons, cotton and some spray paint

Have you started decorating?  I like to do a little at a time, slowly adding holiday touches here and there…

What a festive state tree Jenna! I love the addition of the cotton and your adorable Santa basket for the base! I know everyone must be cheering with your Iron Bowl victory yesterday 🙂

Ha, the pigs are cute! Your tree turned out great, love the basket. Took all weekend but all of my Christmas things are out. Now if only my shopping would fall in place:@)

  4. Too cute! This is such a creative way to bring a little “down-home” Christmas into the kitchen. I am going to check out the cotton garland.

    • thanks Ellen, unfortunately the garland is pretty pricey, I was so lucky to find it for $10 after Christmas last year. The tree I got my inspiration from was at Wrapsody at Patton Creek, they have some fun stuff~

Cute, cute Alabama tree, Jenna! ♥ the cotton garland. I should do a Kansas tree with nothing but sunflowers…thanks for the idea.
    Have a wonderful week.

  7. Darling tree. Love all the Alabama theme. Roll Tide!

My decorating is going slowly. Had to do shopping today so maybe I’ll get going tomorrow.

  8. Oh, this is a darling little southern tree! I was born in Ft. Payne, Alabama, so I know southern! 🙂 Now I live in upstate New York and I’m still southern!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 😉

  10. I may be tardy for the party, but I’m glad I finally got here! What a cute tree! I totally believe in showing state/hometown spirit when decorating at Christmas, and this is a really great representation of Alabama. Lynard Skynard would be proud!!!!

I grew up picking cotton to have money for the Saturday night movie @ Crockett theatre so what’s not to love & bring back memories of your tree 🧡
