Creations, Mardi-Gras Valentine Tree

I have officially declared winter to be over
“Are you listening Mother Nature?”
We have been snowed in, iced in, and had frozen water pipes twice…
in Alabama…
that’s enough for one winter!!!
We have really enjoyed our slender Coastal Christmas Tree,
but I felt like the snowflakes ❄️ I added in January were bad luck
This week I put my snowy things away
and trotted out Valentine decorations and Mardi Gras beads
Mardi Gras is huge on the Alabama Gulf Coast,
Many people don’t realize that Mardi Gras originated in Mobile, not New Orleans
Our local stores are full of masks and beads and all things Mardi Gras
You can also buy Mardi Gras things on line at
Amazon here or Mardi Gras Outet here
It is such a fun holiday to decorate for!
The last hurrah for partying before the Lenten season begins
With Fat Tuesday and Valentine’s Day back to back this year,
why not a half and half tree!
One half Mardi Gras and one half Valentine’s!
🎭 Very festive! ❤️
I covered the base of the tree half and half also,
A pink scarf and felt valentines on one side
A green feather print cloth and Mardi Gras mask on the other
The Mardi Gras side of the tree is decorated with ribbon,
beads, masks, crowns, and fleur de lis ornaments
The Valentine side has red Christmas ornaments
Sparkly heart picks, a Valentine’s Day sign,
painted heart ornaments, paper tags, red straw hearts
and a pink sparkling garland
You can also make your own easy decorations see tutorial here
More masks, feathers, umbrellas and a purple saxophone
The whole thing is just crazy fun!
I also made a small candy tree
This is similar to the Strawberry Tree I made for Christmas
I used a smaller styrofoam cone this time and covered it with Valentine taffy
and Valentine colored Hershey’s Kisses
Break the toothpicks in half for best results
I’m getting ready for Celebrate and Decorate’s
Romantic Table for 2 blog hop Feb. 5-9
Over 20 tables for your inspiration!
Winter winter go away,
make the skies rain beads for Fat Tuesday
and we want to be warm for Valentine’s Day!!
Juicy Details
Fun Mardi Gras fact:
Do you know why umbrellas are part of Mardi Gras decor? Apparently it began in rainy, hot New Orleans where ladies carried umbrellas to shield them from the heat and rain. At some point they began to trim their black umbrellas with lace and other things to make them fancy, and from that emerged more colors and then Mardi Gras umbrellas

Most of my Mardi Gras decorations came from Walmart over recent years

Jenna, how clever and creative…two trees in one! This is so fun, will your grands be down to see it? I have never been to Mardi-Gras, can you believe it? I love the purple saxophone, and of course, all things Valentine’s! Happy Thursday!
Thanks Pam, I’ve only been to local Mardi Gras parades, but they are so much fun! One of my good friends was the queen of the local crewe one year and wow, all the things that she did throughout the year was fascinating and she really was treated like a queen. The kids will be here for Presidents weekend so I will leave the tree up until then. They will be much more interested in the candy tree!
Love your crazy double the fun tree Jenna! I like it so much better when the holidays are spread out a little. Chinese New Year falls on February 16th this year…The Year of the Dog!🐾🐾
I can’t wait to see what you do for the Year of the Dog!
Very cute tree with two themes! You are always fun, Jenna!
Interesting facts about Mardi Gras.
Your grands will love the candy tree.
thank you, I thought HH would think I was crazy, but he actually said he loves the crazy tree!
I can see you are having loads of fun, Jenna. Your home is so cheery.
I love this! Maybe this is what I should do with my winter tree! Very fun and festive. OK, now I’m having a really happy morning!
ha, ha, have fun Jeanie!
That is truly a JENNA tree! Fun Fun! We sure have been having a winter this year!!
Ok, is that a compliment? 😂
It SURE is!!!!!!
😅
I love your “coastal tree’, Jenna. My house seems so bare after the holidays, it would be nice to keep some cheer around as you have. I am tempted to do the same thing next year. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Rosie
I have really enjoyed this crazy tree…my biggest challenge is where I’m going to put it when I take it down!
I gotta say Jenna, you make me laugh. What a great idea for a Valentine/Mardi Gras tree all in one. You’ve gotten your money’s worth outa that tree. That’s just “Crazy Good”.
Thanks Sandy, I just hate it when these 2 holidays are so close together because I love decorating for both of them! Everyone around here decorates for Mardi Gras in a big way, such fun!
Oh, you are soooo creative, Jenna! Love your tree!! Like how you decorated it different on each side and with such fun ornaments!! I wasn’t aware that Mardi Gras originated in Alabama. 🎷🎩😃 Looks like fun!
I am going to try to snap some local decorations when it gets closer to Fat Tuesday, people decorate their front doors and mailboxes like it’s Christmas! Thanks Jill!
That candy tree would be destroyed in less than two days here in our house – cute! On our walk today, I was searching for buds (no blooms for at least another month, except for the wintered-over pansies). I saw a tulip tree and forsythia bush with buds, and the Lenten roses are pushing through the ground. I guess that’s all the spring indicators we can hope for here until we’re past both Mardi Gras and Valentine’s Day, maybe even St. Patty’s. Hopefully no more snow here though. It’s been bizarre to see it in AL. I know it must feel crazy for you guys. Have a great weekend, Jenna.
ha ha, yes, I’m trying not to nibble on it but it’s going to be hard to not touch it before the littles get here in 3 weeks! Fingers crossed you don’t get a hard freeze to kill those buds!
You are a clever gal Jenna! Love the trees! Watch your mailbox for a little something to add to your ❤️❤️❤️tree.
oh boy!!
I love the half and half tree Jenna! Just found out about the two holidays being so close together yesterday. I know you’ll have a blast-enjoy:@)
What a cute idea Jenna. It sure makes sense, two for one tree. I love to have fun with Marci Gras and Valentine’s Day and now you’ll enjoy both sooner and later. The only thing about a candy tree, well, I’m afraid the candy would mysteriously disappear! Sorry you’ve had such a rough winter with the pipes, hope it’s over! Have a wonderful weekend…..
Thanks Emily, yes this has been a challenging few weeks, but the temp hit 70 yesterday and made frozen pipes seem like a bad dream! Have you had any problems at your house?
Jenna, I love your half & half tree! What a clever idea! I leave my slender white tree up until Easter and these holidays are too close together this year. I’m going to decorate for Valentines this and keep it up a week before putting on the Mardi Gras decorations. Your tree is just fabulous!
Thanks Catherine, I am thinking about leaving mine up until Easter, but I’m not sure my family will let me!
The candy tree wouldn’t last long and you are super creative! Let me know how that talk with Mother Nature turns out, maybe I’ll give it a try. LOL!
so far so good, 70 yesterday!!
I love celebrating both Fat Tuesday and Valentines… your double sided tree is brilliant!! Love it
