Fearless Friday, Hydro Dipping
Have you heard about the new craze Hydro Dipping?
You fill a tub with water and then spray paint the surface with several colors
Then you quickly take an object or canvas and submerge it in the water
The paint forms an abstract pattern on the object
Very cool!!
This is Super Boy’s current passion
Here’s what you need…
A plastic tub, several colors of spray paint, disposable gloves,
and a little brother to shake the paint cans for you!
It helps to have a Dad assistant too…
{By the way, Southern guys insist on wearing shorts no matter what the weather!}
You also need something to dip!
He loves to dip water bottles like the one below
You can get them on Amazon here
He also has done phone cases,
he bought clear cases at the Dollar Store and gave me these two for Christmas!
To prep the object for dipping, use masking tape to cover areas you don’t want painted
He covered the top, and rim that the lid screws onto,
completely with tape, to protect these areas from paint
You don’t want to paint any areas that will come in contact with your mouth
Once paint is completely dry, remove tape and put on the lid
Super Boy learned how to do this by watching You Tube videos…

What a fun project for the grands Jenna! I love how he transformed those dollar store phone cases as gifts for you too 🙂
I was amazed when he gave me the phone cases, so sweet!!
This is unbelievably cool. I’ve marbled before and it can be a mess. I’m sure this has that potential too, but if a kid can do it, that’s promising. Pretty cool it sticks to metal and plastic. Are the spray paints waterbased or enamel? Thanks for this one — it’s a keeper!
The spray paint is enamel. He is really going wild with this, always looking for something to dip. He tried a wine bottle, but the paint just slid off…not sure why it works on metal and not glass, you have to dip something with a bit of texture to hold the paint. Thanks Jeanie
Jenna, I didn’t know about hydro dipping…how cool is this! Ella Mae would love it, I think I will wait for warmer weather. The phone cases and bottles are so cute. I had to laugh about the shorts, and yes bare feet. It is still pouring rain here this morning, stay warm.
Thanks Pam, I couldn’t believe the bare feet, but when he was doing this last weekend it was much warmer! The rain is gone here this morning, hopefully the sun will come out soon!

This is really fun. I haven’t done it but I did see a video of this somewhere. I’ve got to give this a try, perhaps when the grand is here. Cute little kiddos and yes, you are so right about the guys and their shorts. Happy weekend…..

What a fun project! All his projects turned out great. The little brother did an awesome job on shaking up the cans, lol, what an awesome helper. That creative gene must come from you.

hmmm, I don’t know about paper unless it’s a sturdy watercolor paper maybe?? It is a really cool technique, check out some of the You Tube videos…

Yes, tons of fun! If you do this with the grands, I recommend watching several You Tube videos to get more detailed instructions, but it’s really fairly simple, thanks Kitty!
It is actually a form of Japanese paper marbling. Just learned myself.

Yes, you can drop drops of ink carefully from the end of a brush on top of still water and then use a spray or drop bottle with dish soap to make clear rings in the ink. You can use something thin like a needle to swirl the ink on top of the water (carefully then) then take the paper, slowly lay on top of the water and remove the paper and it stains the paper the same way.
