Creations, Uncle Sam’s Hat Vase

Welcome to the monthly Creative Craft Blog Hop
hosted by Celebrate & Decorate and Design Morsels
If you’re visiting from B4s and Afters
didn’t she have a great idea to recreate a tired decoration?!
Let’s get crafting!
We’ve all had to craft with what we have on hand these days,
due to restricted shopping
As I was “shopping” my house I came across this white container
I think it came with a plant in it last year
I’d been saving it for a future use…
Hmmmm….paired with a blue plate
It just might make a cute patriotic decoration!
Working around the raised pattern on the pot,
I painted blue checks around the base
with glossy enamel craft paint and a large flat square brush
I set it aside to dry while I practiced some stars
If you break down the star shape into a series of lines,
it makes it easier to recreate
It’s a little trickier with a brush,
I quickly learned I needed a smaller brush as my strokes were too fat
use a small liner brush for best results
Don’t worry if they aren’t perfect!
Now for the stripes
I painted the upper wide sections with red
using a small brush to continue the stripe down the ridge between the stars
and a larger brush to apply paint to the wider areas
Then I sat it in the center of a blue plate
I put a big white hydrangea bloom in the center
and added red carnations around it
And a mini Uncle Sam hat just for fun!
You can see this Uncle Sam Hat Vase starring in a patriotic tablescape here
You could glue the container to the plate,
but I chose to just set the vase on top
so I could use the blue plate for other things too {like dining!!}

An adorable idea to celebrate the red, white and blue Jenna, Uncle Sam would be proud! I love how you shopped your house and repurposed your flower vase painting the stars and stripes. Your blue plate makes the perfect hat brim and it makes a festive centerpiece for your patriotic table. Happy Thursday ♥
Thank you Mary, that pot had been begging me to do something with it for a long time!
And now we know the rest of the story of Uncle Sam’s top hat. Thank you, I was certainly wondering. You are quite witty in your imagination and execution, Jenna!
Thanks Rita, it was a fun project 🙂
Brilliant idea for the upcoming festivities! The shape of the vase is so suited to becoming a hat. Isn’t it amazing how inspiring it can be to shop your house?!
Thank you Sara, yes I love it when you can re-purpose something you already have!

Thanks Cecilia, I was happy to think of a use for that white pot!
What a lovely creation and look, Jenna! You have amazing painting skills and techniques! I think you may have just created a new design Mackenzie-Childs would seriously envy! Great project!
How sweet, thanks so much Gail!!
Jenna, your patriotic hat turned out to make such a beautiful centerpiece! Your creativity amazes me! As I have said before, you are so talented. Happy Thursday!
Thanks so much Shannon!
Such a cute project and shopping your house has paid off. Love the painted vase and your added blue plates. So patriotic and creativie.
Thank you Linda, I have had that white pot sitting around begging me to do something with it!

Thanks Terrie!
Love, love, love your Uncle Sam hat centerpiece! It is so much fun to watch your creative process and see the wonderful final results. You are an inspiration, Jenna. I’m going to “shop the house” today to see if I can come up with something new for July 4th since I’m still pretty much “hunkering down” as CA’s numbers are ramping up! Yuk! A project will be nice to focus on. Take care.
thank you so much Rosie, I love to inspire, have fun!
What a fun project and so fun – love how it turned out. Thanks for sharing and lovely crafting with you!
Thank you Chas, we have a great creative group don’t we!
This project is too stinkin’ cute. I love your artwork, as you well know. Perfect for a centerpiece or any place for the 4th of July. Well done.
Thanks sweet Carol!
You painted such a pretty patriotic vase. I love the way it looks with the flowers and the top hat!
Thanks Julie!
Jenna so very clever, cute and patriotic! No one can hold a candle to you when armed with a paintbrush lol! It looks so festive on the table and makes a great centerpiece.
Thanks so much Debbee, my husband used to say I would paint anything that didn’t move 🙂
Very patriotic, which I like of course! I like things out of the ordinary, and Uncle Sam’s hat is not what I usually think of for patriotic decor (although of course it is– I just don’t think of it). Very creative of you!
Liberty
Thanks so much Liberty! Your name is adorable!
I am so glad you shared this centerpiece. It’s so creative. Did you just see that vase and think of that? I wish my brain worked like that. Thanks for taking part in the hop.
Thank you Andrea, and thanks for all your help!
You are way, way, WAY too clever! I really love this. And what I appreciate the most is your ingenuity in turning that vase into something so unique! The flowers just set it off. Well done. I bow down, impressed!
Thanks Jeanie, I have had that white pot sitting by my sink for a long time daring me to do something to it!
