Fearless Friday, Fish Fantasy

Let’s draw and color fanciful fish today

Fish are kind of like flowers,

you really can’t make a mistake,

they come in all shapes and sizes,

especially when you’re making them up!

I searched for lobster art on Pinterest

and found 2 images I liked for inspiration

One is a metal wall hanging from Etsy {above}

And one is by Patricia Piffath {below}

Since I really wanted to just relax and have fun with this

I didn’t use a pencil, just a liner pen

Drawing anything is basically a process

of breaking your subject down into shapes

I started with the left lobster claw

and proceeded to draw the lobster shape by shape

I pinned a few colorful fish art photos that I used for reference

for drawing the other fish

I drew the fish shape by shape,

just like I did the lobster

To finish the scene I added sea grass and bubbles

You can download a free printable here if you want to color along with me

I’m using colored pencils today

Start with the lightest tones

Add layers of color to build depth

I used a light peach,

then a medium orange, and then a deep red orange

I used 2 shades of green for the grasses

Color the fish with any colors you want

To color the bubbles, color them only partially,

leaving a white highlight near the top of the bubbles

The finishing touch was a light coloring all over the page

with pale blue to indicate water

Fishy fun and now we’re done!

Be Fearless!

Jenna, I enjoyed following along watching the fun process for Fishy fun! Beautiful end results and you always make it look so easy. I think there has to be a lot of talent involved, which you have in abundance! Beautiful my friend………

I just don’t get how you make it look so easy when it definitely is not, at least not for me. It’s beautiful Jenna!

Too precious!! I love the “character” of each component. I will definitely be trying a hand at coloring in these sweet citizens of the ocean! Thanks, Jenna.

This is so much fun, Jenna, and colorful! I love the color. 😀 I hope that Claudette isn’t flooding Ono Island. My SIL had some flooding in Pass Christian. She lost her big crawfish pot. 🙁

    • Thanks Ricki Jill, I’m sure it was awful yesterday morning, but sun was out by 2 pm! Everything looks okay through our Ring cameras, just a bunch of leaves and palm bark in the pool, but the flags are still flying!

  13. I love the fun, fanciful colors! You are really inspiring me to think outside of my box and paint something fantastical! The color is wonderful and so happy!

So fanciful and fun Jenna! Your fish and lobster remind me of Sebastian the crab in the Little Mermaid 🙂
