Fearless Friday, Fall Color Play

Let’s have some Fall fun with watercolor today!

The changing leaves seem to be extra colorful this year

I have seen some amazing photos,

and even trees in my own area

are displaying stunning Fall color

This photo of the colorful trees reflected in the water

from Pixabay inspired this painting

This is a great way to practice and experiment with watercolor

I wet the bottom part of the page with water,

then starting at the tree top I painted short horizontal lines

of the tree with a small pointed brush,

extending the line length as I reached the bottom

of the tree and the water line

Then, as my brush encountered the wet part of the page,

the color was drawn into the water, creating the reflected image

This is a great way to practice the “wet into wet” technique

This photo of a tree from Unsplash turning several colors

inspired another tree painting experiment

For this tree I started by painting the trunk and limbs

I always keep a sheet of paper nearby to test my colors and strokes

I also used clear puddles of water on this tree

so the paint would spread and blend

The more familiar you are with your medium

and what it can and will do,

the more confident you will become

and the better your paintings will be

If you end up with too much water as in the large droplets above,

you can use a Q-tip or piece of tissue or paper towel

to soak it up

I decided to finish this one with some ink details

I urge you to get out your watercolors and play!
