Fearless Friday, A Simple Design can have a Big Impact
A few simple lines and shapes can be combined
to build an interesting pattern and anyone can do this!
The secret is repetition
Let’s try this “S” border design I saw on the cover of a notebook
Start with 1 backward S, then add another S
with the large curves touching at the bottom
Add a circle at the top of each pair and fill in the S shapes,
adjusting if needed, as you go

Clearly it’s not perfect, this is just a quick attempt,
but the overall impact is there
You are an artist, not a machine,
hence the charm comes from the imperfection
Here’s a lacy pattern
Going clockwise, start with making a “wave” line
Add another wave line above the first one
Then make narrow loops on each wave point
Add a small circle in between loops
and then underline the bottom wave line twice
Make vertical lines between the bottom wave line
and the top straight line
Add small dots to the tip of each wave along the lower wave line
Add a scalloped line to the bottom of the lower straight line
I used these patterns and other simple swirls, diamonds and squares
to paint decorative bottles

I used the wave and loop part of this lacy pattern on the gold bottle
3rd from the right, in the photo above
I also used the “umbrella” pattern on this bottle

Even the simplest patterns can be effective with repetition

Large pink squares and random silver dots and swirls
with a silver paint pen decorate the bottle below left
while the bottle lower right is painted with various sizes
of tornado type swirls
Add a flower stem or two and you have a sweet gift!

Simple shapes and patterns repeat on these painted pots
by my friend Joanne

[I use them to hold my small paint jars
so forgive the paint splatters I made]
Her simple flower pattern,
created with a large dot and 3 quick strokes, is brilliant
The repetition gives this simple flower impact
A swirl of dark pink inside the flower
and tone on tone yellow background
with dots, and green bands
This is an adorable design anyone can do~
This cabinet is in my art studio
It’s decorated with glass beads, simple swirls, dots and checks

When you look up close you can easily see the pattern isn’t perfect,
but once it’s finished, you don’t notice the imperfections
Please tell me you are itching to create something now!
You can see more about this cabinet
and take a tour of My Studio here
Have fun! Experiment!

You make It looks so easy and beautiful. I am an admirer but don’t have any talent. I do love geometric designs. I’ll give your instructions a try on paper.
It’s Judee from Gluten Free A-Z Blog
sorry I forgot to include my information in the comment above. It came out anonymous.
I hope you try it Judee, it’s a lot of fun!
I love doodling with lines and patterns but never have done it on 3-D items. Might be a fun challenge!
Do you ever paint with acrylic Jeanie? It’s so versatile. My husband used to tell people I would paint anything that didn’t move 🙂
Super fun and an easy way to embellish all manner of things Jenna! Love the wine bottle turned vase! Happy Friday ♥

Jenna, you do make it look easy! But these simple waves, dots, S’s, I can do. I love your cabinet! Thanks for always inspiring me. Happy Friday!

Thanks so much Linda!
These are adorable Jenna, and you are right in that they make fantastic gifts! I love love your cabinet and you have just given me an awesome idea for a cabinet that was about to get purged here as a place for my craft paints so thanks so much for that. I heard somewhere that the most beautiful things are imperfect… I popped over to visit your studio – so lovely to see the place where your creative genius happens. Happy Fearless Friday to you!
Thank you so much Kim, and have fun with your cabinet! Send me a pic when you get done!
