Rosy Check Gift Tin
Welcome to the February edition of the monthly Creative Craft Hop
Thank you Donna from Modern on Monticello
for hosting this month!

Welcome friends, readers, and visitors from

with her cute Painted Valentine’s Candles!
I received a box of Pecan Straws for Christmas
They came in a cookie tin that was crying to be repurposed
after the Pecan Straws were gone

Hmmmm…my first thoughts were of decoupage,
but then I got another idea~
MacKenzie-Childs just added a new design to their Spring line,
If you look closely,
you’ll notice that what appears to be simple pink and white checks,
is actually a little more complicated than that
MacKenzie-Childs popular check patterns actually have
streaks of tan mixed in the white

so I decided to do a little “knock off,”
and paint the tin with Rosy Check and decorate it with faux flowers

I got out the paint I wanted to use, pink, white, and Buff Titan
I loaded my large Filbert brush with white and a little Buff,
so when I brush the colors will naturally mix when I stroke

Once the white was dry,
I added the pink checks with a square flat brush like the one below

Start with the bottom row and continue to place the squares
every other space as you continue up and around the tin

As with the white and Buff,
I put pink and white on my brush
letting the colors mix naturally as I stroked
I kept the pink a little darker than the MKC pink
because I liked it better

I didn’t cover the top completely
because I knew I was going to glue the flowers on it
and it would be covered

2 large blooms

2 slightly smaller blooms

Small buds fill in the remaining spaces

Fill it with cookies, candy or a small gift~
perfect for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day,
birthdays, hostess gift or any occasion!

I love your rosy check MKC version. What a pretty tin that would be lovely for a gift. Thank you once again for your inspiration! Happy Tuesday!
I always love your painting talents. This is such a pretty tin that you created, perfect for a gift or a display piece.
So pretty Jenna! I see these at thrift stores so often – or even worse, getting tossed! I love how the paint adds a touch of charm and whimsy—what a beautiful way to give new life to something you wouldn’t display as-is!
What a fun project!
Jenna, this is beautiful! Love, love, love your pairing of pink checks and pretty floral accents–whoever receives this gift will be thrilled! Blessings, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
Jenna, I love your rosy check tin! What a wonderful and fun idea. This could be filled with any number of things. My girls would love it as a jewelry box. Happy Tuesday, it appears that we are going to receive an abundance of rain, hopefully eliminating our drought ☔️
Someone will be tickled pink to receive this pretty tin filled with some of your delicous goodies, I’m sure!
This is super cute! And someone is going to love it, long after whatever you put inside is gone!
There’s so much potential with repeating this design on other things. It’s a great find and project to recreate.

I never know what to do with these tins. You have created a wonderful idea for them. The flowers are beautiful on top.
Jenna the pinks are beautiful and you are so clever to make such a cute tin that could be used for so many things. Happy Valentine’s Day.❤️
Cute idea – perfect for Valentine’s Day and Spring!
Nice knock-off of style without copying their products.
Oh Jenna, your Valentine’s tin is so beautiful! I love the MC rosy check pattern, and you have captured it perfectly. In fact, yours is prettier. Thank you for sharing this idea with us. I have lots of tins left over, and this would be a wonderful way to repurpose them. I hope you have a happy Valentine’s Day!
Oh how adorable your redo of your tin turned out, Jenna! From now on, I’ll be keeping my tins I receive and doing something crafty with them. Happy Valentine’ Day 💕
Oh my, a delightfully created gift tin!
Such a beautiful idea and I love recycling the tin!! Not too difficult either for a novice like me.
Thank you Judee, I love the way it turned out!
The tin is fabulous! I particularly love it with the flowers on top. I’ve only recently become aware that MC has done a pink and white check. It’s so romantic. I love it. I don’t need any more dinnerware, but I may not be able to resist. I will say as well that I’m intrigued by those cinnamon pecan sticks. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Maybe I should come up with a recipe of my own. 🙂
Just read that an emergency has cropped up. I hope everything is all right, or at least that it works out all right. Thinking of you.
Thank you Pattie, when I want to buy MKC, sometimes if I paint something knock off, it satisfys my urge 🙂 haha!! I’m sure your cinnamon pecan sticks wil be much much better that the ones in the tin!
That is a very pretty makeover!
thanks so much Joanne!
So pretty Jenna!!
Jenna, I !!!! love this project. I recently received a tin like this as a hostess gift. The McKenzie-Childs pink check items are gorgeous. I can’t freehand like you, but I’ve made checks with painters tape. So pretty for springtime decor.
