Home decor, April Showers

If April showers do bring May flowers, it is going to be a botanical garden around here because it has RAINED SO MUCH this Spring!
This door decoration was inspired by BHG
I saw this last year and it has been lingering in the back of my mind ever since…while their version is totally awesome, I doubt that it would hold up very long on the outside…the delicate egg shells, fresh flowers and lacy moss are all beautiful but I wanted something I could actually hang on the outside of the front door for a month.
On a recent trip to Hobby Lobby I spied this umbrella. It has a delicate pink paisley print on the fabric and a dark wooden handle. They had some in other fabric prints too, but the pink one spoke to me…so I wandered over to the floral section and saw the much welcome 50% off all stems sign! I love Hobby Lobby! I know, they probably mark everything up 50% , but it just makes you feel so excited about scoring a bargain! I liked the texture of the burlap tulips and the grassy buds. The bud stems are more like paper than plastic.
Not really having a plan here, I hung the umbrella on a cabinet door knob and started trying different things
The umbrella was staying in a slightly open position and I was able to secure the stems by weaving them through the inside spokes. At this point I decided to go ahead and put it on the door to see what would happen when the arrangement was flat against it.
I used a wire around the base of the handle to attach it to the nail in the front door. Everything seemed to stay in place without having to stuff the umbrella, but it needed something to make it pop…
This old watering can was perfect! It has a burlap label and when secured with the umbrella’s self tie, it made the whole decoration tilt in a jaunty way!
We will be going off to the garden center this weekend to make sure there is something in our yard to bloom after all these April showers!
Have you started your Spring gardening yet?

[…] April Showers Door Umbrella […]
Jenna~ Your April Showers and umbrella door decoration is adorable! I’ve seen the BHG inspiration photo on Pinterest and thought it was cute but not long-lived! Love your burlap blooms from Hobby Lobby! I had no idea HL had umbrellas~ your addition of the watering can is so fun & clever!
Love this Jenna! So perfect for spring!

A botanical garden….that’s funny! I’m happy for every drop of rain that falls these days after the crazy drought these past 2 years. It has been drier than toast around here!!! This year we’re finally getting a little moisture. Still playing catch up.
I hope you won’t mind if I use this idea. I LOVE this for the front door! I really like to see front doors decked out with special things, and this is SUPER special! I love the pink umbrella! The burlap tulips…this is my very first time seeing those, and they are c-u-t-e!!! The little watering can is the perfect final touch! VERY cute!!!
Of course, please do use this! I literally put mine together in several minutes so I’m sure you could do it much more justice! It’s been raining ever since I put it up, so maybe it’s a rain attractor!

This is so cute, I Love it! I love tulips too. I seen my first lilacs of the season yesterday, made my day, they’re my favorite flower of all.
Happy Spring,

Well I pinned this umbrella last summer and have been wanting to create one too. You did a marvelous job–looks very pretty. I’m just having a hard time finding the right size umbrella in a spring color. I’m ready for color!! Happy Spring.
