Party Panache, Playing with Dishes

I am a confessed dish-a-holic…. I can’t resist them 😰
In an effort to contain my addiction, I decided to have some fun creating new ways to use things I had…
Once I got started, it was hard to stop! Endless possibilities!
Let’s start with Easter 🐇
A small cake stand, perched on a larger ruffle edge cake stand, inside a fluted quiche dish, on a purple charger
With a compote on top
Here the quiche baker is inverted and used as a pedestal, works either way
A crab mug topped with a salad plate and set inside a large shallow bowl would be great for serving shrimp or crab legs, place the seafood on the plate and discard shells into the bowl
I found things that were sturdy enough once stacked, that there was no need for securing, but to be on the safe side you can use double sided tape, stick-on velcro strips, or floral sticky putty
If you are totally committed to your creation, make it permanent with E6000 clear adhesive. This is a great craft glue, widely available, at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Michael’s or Amazon.com here
A “one of a kind” cup and saucer pairs with a plate for a make-shift breakfast muffin stand
Transform a place setting by inverting the cereal bowl on top of the dinner plate and top with the salad plate and cup or mug
Fill the cup with dip or salsa and arrange cut up veggies and crackers or chips on the plates
You can create the dish stack based on the foods you will be serving
This server is composed of a fish platter, with a votive candle holder, topped with a ceramic crab wine bottle coaster, holding a shallow bowl
Multi level serving pieces are great space savers on the buffet or table also. With stacked platters you can serve several things in the same amount of space as 1 platter
It makes the buffet visually more interesting too, with varied heights and elements
These two oblong fish platters are placed on a long wood serving board, with the top platter supported by small juice glasses
Take a look around and see what you can come up with!
Juicy Details and True Confessions
Home Goods, Pier 1 and Hobby Lobby are my favorite stores for dishes and accessories. Pieces still available from other stores are sourced below
large Sardinia platter/ Anthropologie
ruffled cake stand and quiche baker/ McKenzie-Childs
I did recently purchase the lettuce pitcher from Wayfair.com. In my own defense, I put it on my wish list for at least 2 weeks before purchasing, showing great restraint 😳

Such a cute dishaholic you are!!! 😉
hi Jenna, I see we have this is common, I have such a weakness for dishes! I love all the pretty ways you combined your colors and patterns. You have so many, where do you store them all? I have run out of space!
Happy rainy Friday…………..
My little beach house is about maxed out,Emily! I do have a large armoire that is packed full of all my play things, and is handily located in the great room, but I don’t think I can squeeze another thing in there…Most things I have are not whole sets, but 2s and 4s, so require less space… >
Jenna, I love your quiche dish inverted as a colorful pedestal. Your MacKenzie-Childs pieces with their pastel jelly bean colors are perfect for Easter! I have used Fixodent Denture Adhesive Cream as temporary “glue” to secure a teacup as a pedestal to serving plate. 🙂
Great tip, thanks Mary! >
You are truly an artist. Your creativity is amazing even stacking just the right combination. Your colorful dishes are all so much fun. I understand your love for dishes because I have it too. Be glad you have two houses to store them. I’m am in big trouble because my space is maxed out.
Great post
Thank you Bonnie, it’s fun to “play” house 🙂 >
Oh, Jenna, what great ideas! And so timely. When I have the family over for holiday dinners I always have trouble with the area I serve appetizers: now I am going to try the double platter idea to give me some more room on my counter! Thanks to Mary, too, for the temporary adhesive idea. It’s so nice to know there are fellow tablescapers who understand the true love of dishes!!!

Thanks Rosie, and congrats on winning the Peeps-a-licious book from Mary!! >
Your dishes are just lovely! I see so many pretties when I’m out and about, but storage is my issue. I wish I had a place to keep them all when display was done!!
Thanks Kim, it’s so nice to know others have my same obsession! >
Such a cute idea, love those little crabs. I too am a dishaholic! I keep finding them in thrift stores, and I have had more complete sets bought and sold than I can say.
Thanks Carole, I need to purge a little, but I can’t ever seem to part with anything! >
This is a great way to make something old something new again. I am drawn into thrift stores like a magnet and working to keep my collection from looking like a junk pile. Thank you for the ideas!
Thanks Sandra! >
Such great ideas for using what we already have to make them more interesting and functional.
Thanks for all the time I’m sure this blog post took to arrange the dishes and photograph them. I saw your post over at Metamorphosis Monday party.
Thanks Kitty, I could have spent hours playing with dishes! >
You have such an awesome, unique collection of dishes! To see how you use and pair them is always a delightful treat! 🙂 ~Rhonda
Thanks Rhonda, Home Goods is my weakness 🙂 >
Jenna, I have the same obsession…it is so hard to resist the temptation! What a fun and creative post with inspiration galore. I love all your MC pieces!
Thanks Pam, it does make me feel less guilty when I hear from my “sister” dish lovers! >
Oh, so many possibilities!! These are cute, cute, cute. Thank you for reminding me to try to use what I have. Despite my want to reuse and upcycle I still like to shop. While you haven’t cured me, you’ve reminded me to take another look at what I have on hand. 🙂
Aww….everything looks so cute! 🙂
