Holidays, Happy Labor Day & Psst, It’s Football Season!

My prayers to those affected by Hermine and the Pacific storms. We were lucky and only had a couple of hours of rain from the outer bands on Thursday, and have been enjoying hot sunshine on the Gulf coast. Fingers crossed hurricane season will be mild this year.
Okay, what’s the best thing about Labor Day weekend?
A last summer getaway?
Nope…
Time with friends and family?
Nope…
The beginning of fall?
Nope…
Cooler weather?
Nope….
The start of pumpkin season and delicious fall foods?
Nope!
It’s the official start of college football!! 🏈
Are you ready????
Do you have football field table runner? See how to make one here
Football watching requires lots of piggy things…
You’re going to need a good dip, like this Pigskin Tailgate Dip
And maybe some Pistachio Pigs
Oh and you definitely want to up your game with Brown Sugar Bacon Bundles
Top Dogs on a Roll aka Gourmet Smokies with Caramelized Onions, are a twist on ever favorite pigs in a blanket
Top Dogs on a Roll or Red & White Tidy Bites
Ingredients
- 20 mini smokies
- 20 small dinner rolls [Sister Shubert’s]
- 1 large onion sliced
- sweet hot mustard or mustard of choice
- 1 T butter
- 1 T olive oil
Instructions
- Cook onion in butter and olive oil over medium low heat until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
- Slice rolls in partially in half lengthwise, like a hot dog bun, not cutting all the way through, forming a pocket.
- Spread mustard on the inside and top with a few caramelized onions and 1 smokie.
- Place buns on a baking sheet and bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes until heated through.
- Makes 20 mini dogs.
How about a Popcorn Bar
Set out a variety of toppings with a big bowl of popcorn and individual containers
Let everyone create their own mix
Show your team spirit at the table
And at your front door
Whether your team wins or loses, make sure you enjoy the game!

Yay to football! Jenna, what a great assemblage of, no doubt, fan faves! The runner is so perfect, and the foods, esp
that pigskin hot dip, look so good! Thanks for sharing. I love this type of party style.
Thanks Rita, we love football season!
Jenna, you know how to throw a football party…love the popcorn bar! Our team certainly won big last night, they got off to a slow start but once they got their rhythm the Tide Rolled! RTR. Wishing you a wonderful Labor Day!
thanks Pam, yes, wow, what a game!
Happy Labor Day weekend Jenna!
Roll Tide Roll! What a great start to football season! I love your front door….how cute! Enjoy the rest of your Labor Day weekend. I’m still trying to get my house in order from the moving in and out of college daughters.
I think my comment might have disappeared. First of all, Happy Labor Day Weekend and Roll Tide Roll! What a great game and start to football season. I love your door decoration! So cute!
Thanks Ricki, your comment went to moderation, sorry, I’m not sure why that happens sometimes-
Oh, this looks more fun than anything! Enjoy!
Thanks Jeanie!
You guys really go all out! Ray was totally in hog heaven yesterday and last night. I binge-watched another Aussie soap opera I have gotten hooked on. Just not a football girl. I could definitely get into some of that food, though!
Ha, yes football is big at our house, and it definitely keeps the guys happy! >
My team doesn’t play until Monday night, so I was totally relaxed over the weekend! Snacks are nearby and ready to go!
Uh oh, we’ll be rooting for Ole Miss! >
Woo-Hoo for football season! Happy Labor Day Jenna-enjoy:@)
Happy Football Season and Labor Day Jenna! Love your pigskin round-up and team pride. I know you were celebrating Saturday night couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for USC when I saw the final score 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying some fun in the sun today!
Yeah, that was kind of rough, especially since one of my sisters, 2 of my brother in laws and 1 of my nephews are USC alum 🙂 >
