Fearless Friday, Painting Pumpkins and a Giveaway!

After recently being disappointed by the too small pumpkin plates I ordered from Pottery Barn, I found these dinner plates from Pier 1
They are a generous size, perfect for dining or using as a platters…and guess what, they are melamine, perfect for the beach house!
And just like the PB plates, they inspired a lot of pumpkin painting
Before I painted a table runner
I wanted to do a few practice projects
I painted some glasses
Did some watercolor sketches
Clockwise from top right:
Quick strokes with a round #4 brush, laying out the shapes and composition, gradually adding more color layers, then stems, deepening the shadows and finally adding leaves and vines
After loosening up with watercolor, I did a quick sketch with acrylic on paper
I also painted the back side of these old orange pillows to get the feel of painting on fabric
You can use regular acrylic or craft paint if you mix it with textile medium
And then I was ready to paint this runner
Juicy Details

So smart to paint the backside for reversible pillows Jenna! I love your new pumpkin plates from Pier 1! I’m so ready for pumpkin season, I’ve been stalking the garden centers waiting for their arrival, but it’s still several weeks early here. Your painted runner is so pretty for fall.♥
I love and collect pumpkins, my house tends to follow the fall colors and my nickname as a child was “punkin”.
Jemma, what a great look! I love how the plates inspired you – the runner, the glasses, the pillows all look really terrific! I have purchased several pumpkins already (real, mostly for outdoor decor) to add to my and faux (plush, for inside), and am starting to get my fall on! Thanks for the opportunity on the runner. Whoever wins it will be a lucky one.
Thanks Rita! >
Pumpkin Envy Punkin! 🙂
Wow, your pumpkins painting is beautiful Jeanna. Great plates from Pier 1 and yes so perfect for the beach life. I love your pillows, the pop of orange in the chairs is divine. Gorgeous table settings and runner. I am making a vignette for the kitchen, a pumpkin patch with my velvet pumpkins. Thanks for all the inspiration!
I can’t wait to see your velvet pumpkin patch Emily! >
Your enormous talent makes creating art look so easy! Keep it coming.
Everything is beautiful, so festive. You have a great talent and you do a great job in creating pretty but useful decor. The runner is such a fun piece to use in so many places in the home. It looks great on your patio table – very inviting with your table arrangements.
I enjoy seeing all of your creations even the “Roll Tide” – being from Louisiana (LSU). LOL
Pumpkins, pumpkins, you can never have too many of these beautiful gourds! Love all the decorating ideas and, of course, the hand painted pumpkin runner……Thank you!
Hello Jenna,
You are such a talented artist and I love your gorgeous painted glasses, and pillows. I love those watercolor sketches too. Thanks for all of this inspirations with pumpkins. The pumpkin runner you painted is so beautiful too!! 🙂
I love to decorate my mantel with my crocheted pumpkins I made a few years ago!
Thanks for the chance to win your lovely giveaway.
Julie xo
Thank you Julie! A mantel full of crocheted pumpkins sounds fantastic! >
I like how you added the green pumpkins to the mix. Very fresh and fall-y.
OO-la-la, Jenna, I LOVE that table runner!! I’m not very artistic so I could never replicate pumpkins (or anything else, for that matter) on material, although you make it look so easy. I can’t imagine what I would be able to come up with! However, I always look forward to getting into my fall decor box and finding a faux pumpkin that I’ve had for YEARS: it has a carved smiling face, and a small bulb in it so it lights up. It becomes the main event for my Halloween vignette I set up in my bay window and I love its soft light at night, both in the living room and the view from the window outside my house. Happy Decorating! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch
I think people are getting to love fall decorating almost as much as holiday decorating Rosie, especially this year as the temps in the south are still in the 90s so we’re all trying to hurry things along as we’re sweating 🙂
This entire setting is just beautiful. The view, well, that makes things gorgeous alone, but the runner, dishes, and glasses (Oh, those glasses!) are just fabulous. Wonderful job here, Jenna. I could spend hours on your site.
Thank you Pattie-
Love this pumpkin season and it’s time to make pumpkin bread we call it harvest loaf and it had chocochips and nuts so yummy!
Your bread sounds yummy Suzanne!
Well, first I love the fall season. I like to cook with pumpkin and I have a recipe for a pumpkin bisque , that is soo good. The tiny pumpkins are good to place down the center of the dining room table in a fall tablescape. I wish I could paint like you.
Pumpkin bisque sounds good!
I preserve my pumpkins by spraying them with clear varnish by Rustoleum which makes them so pretty. After fall is over I spray paint them red, green or gold and use them for Christmas. So pretty! The pumpkin runner is beautiful. Hope I am the winner
Mary Lou House
That’s a great tip! I like this way better than the bleach bath that so many recommend, much easier, thank you Mary Lou!
You have created a darling pumpkin table runner. It would look great in my breakfast nook! 😊 🎃
You are so talented, and your creativity is so inspiring. The main thing I like to do with pumpkin is to eat it: breads, pies, soups, even as a savory side dish. My mother used to cut it in cubes and sauté it with bacon. Not very slenderizing, but quite tasty!
Never heard of sauteing pumpkin with bacon, wow! Thanks Ellen-
Debbie, I love the table runner. I like to clean out a pumpkin and use it as a floral arrangement in a table centerpiece. Hope I win and wish I was half as talented as you are. I’m orange with envy.
Jenna, first I love the Pier 1 plates…the cute pillows, and of.course, the runner! I haven’t seen any pumpkins hit the stores. It was 97 yesterday…is autumn really coming? Happy weekend!!
I just got an email from my favorite farm market in B’ham, Andy’s {Hoover & Vestavia} and it says mums and pumpkins have arrived! So I’m sure they’ll be arriving near you soon-
Thanks for making us a part of your beautiful decor and tablescape!
Beautiful runner. I just love fall
Thanks Michelle, it’s a fun season to decorate for-
Your runner is to die for, but I am smitten with your water color sketches, too! I always wished I could paint. My artistic abilities were limited to my 1st grade classroom where my firsties thought I was “such a good artist”! Ha-Ha.
Thanks Melissa, you should take a class and give it a try-
I always want to put an arrangements of pumpkins by my front door and also coming in my breeze way. I love the look of white pumpkins.
You are very talented. Love the table runner and glasses!!
Thank you Rhonda-
This year painted fence slats gray and painted a white pumpkin on it. Decided to do some for friends as well. Love your painted pillows, etc. mine should look so good. Cherry G.
Oh I bet that looks fantastic Cherry! Great idea!
I use lots and lots of pumpkins in my fall décor. On the table, fireplace – mantle and hearth, entertainment center, outside. I don’t think there is any other item that says “fall” more.
You can never have too many pumpkins is my motto Amy 🙂
This lover of all things pumpkin is easing into fall by decorating an autumn themed tree. I purchased some velvet pumpkin picks and added them to the tree along with some battery operated LED lights that are shaped like leaves. It’s simple but it works. My hoard of faux pumpkins will be coming down soon from the attic and the moment I spot some real ones for sale you can bet I will buy a few. Love all your pumpkins and how you have decorated with them.
You gave me a little confiidence to try painting pumpkins, you make it look so easy. Love your blog!
I’m loving how pretty your pumpkins turned out!!! XO – Jenny
I’m going pretty classic and making Jack-O-Lanterns with the kids. I also love to get baby pumpkins to use on my mantle decor.
You seriously should have a store front with all these beautiful pieces!
Thank you Sandra, I did sell to store for almost 20 years, but now I am just enjoying creating what and when I please. >
I cannot get over how talented you are. Wow!

Pumpkins are a favorite decorating medium around here! I use them both inside and out fake and real. Your runner and glasses are adorable. Great inspiration!
oh good, thank you Lynn! >
Love you artistic runner. The pumpkins are darling. One cannot have enough pumpkins. Pumpkin for decor, craft projects and of course cooking. Love it all.
Thank you Jenna for sharing at DI&DI. Enjoy the upcoming weekend.
Thanks Linda! >

Thanks Jeanie! >
This post is just fabulous to show how you can incorporate fall & pumpkins into nautical decor.
I collect pumpkins and use them in every room of the house, including bedrooms & bathrooms.
Even though I live in Arizona, I decorate extensively for fall outside as well. It puts me in the mood for my favorite season, FALL!!
Thanks, I love fall too, just not cold weather!
I love that painted runner. I love decorating with pumpkins and I’m going to paints some things this year. Thanks for the inspiration.
