Fearless Friday, Simply Citrus

I’ve been focusing on citrus this month and even though we painted citrus tags last week, I was itching to paint some citrus with watercolor
Just simple shapes and colors
I painted the whole fruits with the wet into wet technique, painting the shape and then dropping in deeper colors with the tip of the brush while the shape was still wet.
If the area has dried you can brush it lightly with clear water or spray, and then drop in additional color
The tangelo section above left was painted by loading the brush with new gamboge, orange and Quinacridone rose, and letting the colors mix on the paper
The whole tangelo, above right, and the grapefruit below, were painted with the wet into wet technique
After filling the paper with fruit “sketches” I decided to turn it into a reference chart
I uploaded it to PicMonkey
And added text, names, descriptions and uses
The chart is available for purchase as a print for $13 here

I love your citrus sampler watercolor Jenna! I’ve been hoping to find some Blood Oranges at the grocery store, no such luck, but the Cara Cara oranges have been pretty darn tasty! Happy painting and selling to you 🙂
