Home Decor, Poinsettia Arrangement for Valentines Day
I received a gorgeous poinsettia plant for my birthday in December and it was so pretty on the hearth with other holiday decorations
By mid January it was looking “leggy,” meaning the lower leaves were dropping off, not only making a continual mess, but the bare stems were getting the attention instead of the still beautiful red flowers
I’ve never used cut poinsettia flowers in an arrangement before, but with a quick google I found some tips from Better Homes and Gardens
1. Cut the stems to desired length for your container
2. Remove lower leaves
3. Place stems into a vase of cool water for 30 minutes
4. Discard water and refill with fresh water, add plant food and then arrange the stems
5. Check water level daily and replace every few days. Blooms can last up to 2 weeks!
Now I don’t think these will last until Valentine’s day, but in the meantime they are beautiful in the foyer as a nod to the next holiday on the horizon

I go all out for Valentine’s Day every year since it is my son’s birthday
It also has special memories for me, not only of my Valentine HH, but of a special group of people I volunteered with making Valentine baskets as a fundraiser for a local children’s museum
I began pulling out Valentine’s decor last weekend when it was so cold, all the heart things warmed me up!
There is still a touch of winter here and there…
But also a lot of brights!

The painting on the mantel is one I did years ago, but I still love it and it adds a cheerful scene to enjoy on cold January days…
plus it’s full of pinks, reds, and purples so it blends nicely with the Valentine decor

I love everything here. I’d been contemplating cutting down my poinsettias and putting them in a vase and now that I see how pretty it looks, I think I’ll do it today! I spent yesterday doing exactly when you are showing — painting lots of hearts! Valentine’s Day is coming and I love sending Valentine cards. And all your decorations are so pretty and happy!

Loving the poinsettia’s. I have never had too much luck with them to be honest. My mom sure can keep one looking good what seems like forever! Loving all the Valentine Day decor. When poinsettias get all scraggly, they remind me of when the Grinch pinched off the petals one by one until there were just stems left. Very clever to squeeze more beauty out of them!

That’s a beautiful poinsettia arrangement! I never thought of making a floral arrangement. I usually ditch the pot after Christmas! Although, I am surprised that my poinsettias still look good as of today and may actually last until Valentine’s day in its current state. Now I can ensure that they hang around a little longer. Thanks for the great tip on making a floral arrangement from the poinsettia plant. Will keep that in mind as mine has started to drop afew leaves too. I plan to get out some Valentine stuff this Saturday, it will help brighten things up. Glad we are moving along with winter and Happy birthday to your son on the 14th! A beautiful bouquet from your poinsettia Jenna! I read years ago to sear the stems over a flame, yours look just as good with that method. I love your beautiful painting over your mantel!
