Fearless Friday, Watercolor sketch

A couple of weeks ago we talked about the Importance of Drawing, and how drawing regularly helps improve all creative activities. Drawing for fun not purpose, just for the enjoyment…
I think it’s important to do the same with paint, have fun and experiment with your medium without pressure of producing a show stopping masterpiece…wonderful things can happen when the pressure is off…
Watercolor is a little out of my comfort zone, so I am trying to practice more and learn different techniques. I want to paint this beautiful arrangement from Everyday Living with acrylics, but decided to do a watercolor sketch first
I started with painting shapes where the main blooms are
Next I did a light gray wash indicating the watering can
More blooms and stems
More color
More greens and darker tones
An loose ink outline for emphasis
Light shadow washes for the final touch
If you’re wondering where the handle is, I totally forgot to add it! It wasn’t until I was proof reading this post that I noticed … 😳 you can barely see it in Pam’s photo below… I will be sure to include it when I do the acrylic version!!
step by step collage
Practice, Play, Grow!
Be Fearless!
FYI, Society 6 has just added fanny packs and mini prints to their product line, fanny packs can hold your important things and keep your hands free, and mini prints can add a pop of style to your desk top or other small spaces. They start at $6! You can also get an optional wooden stand or frame, for just a little bit more!
To see all the mini prints click here
I love the optional wood stands!

I adore your artistic rendering of Pam’s watering can bouquet Jenna! The whimsy of the tulips and wispy garden flowers lend themselves perfectly to watercolor, handle or no handle! ♥

Looks wonderful, Jenna. Just this week I got out the lovely pillows I got from your Society Six store for the bench on the veranda. They are the perfect touch of spring for the front.

Beautiful flowers!! I love the watering can. It’s so neat that fanny packs are back in style. I used to hate when my mom wore hers, but they are such a good idea! 🙂

I was really shocked to see the fanny packs, but Society 6 is so hip and trendy, I guess they’re making a comeback! They look very cute with prints on them…

The ability to draw is such a gift, one I do not have despite taking lessons. As you know, I so admire your talent.

I love this, Jenna. I really admire that you can put the paint down, no sketch first, and have it turn out proportionally perfect. Love the colors on this — you had a good piece to work from! Pam’s photos are the best.

Watercolor doesn’t come easy for me either, Jenna but I find experimenting does take the pressure off! 😍🎨 I really like your first painting and how loose and colorful it is!! And I like your watering can piece too! Both are so cheerful! 🌸💗🌷

Yes, I like the first one too, and it was meant to be just a doodle, but I liked it so much I put it on Society 6…I do want to paint the watering can again, I think it’s going to look great in acrylic 🎨 I hope you have a creative weekend!

Yes! It’s funny, the other one I painted quickly with just loose strokes of very abstract flowers I like so much better!
