Holidays, Happy Memorial Day, Summer is Here!
In the USA, it’s Memorial Day weekend
The official kick off of Summer!
Flags will be proudly waving as we honor the brave
So many have served and sacrificed for our freedom
After 2 months of quarantine
we felt it was safe for our family to be together for Memorial Day weekend
Things really seem normal on the coast
There are more boaters than ever
People are safely enjoying the beaches
Holiday weekends for us are all about staying at home anyway,
We aren’t beach goers,
we prefer our pool and lounging on the deck and porch
We can watch the parade of boats go by
We’d rather cook and eat at home during the summer months too,
and avoid the crowds at restaurants
In past years HHjr and I have carefully planned out the meals and menus

you can cook inside in case the weather isn’t cooperating
But not this year, we are creating meals as we go, depending on what’s available
It’s amazing how less picky you get once you’ve had to go without for a while…
Do you find you are much more appreciative of things like fresh vegetables now?
We are having the family favorite, Coconut Shrimp, tonight
We discovered that if fresh shrimp aren’t available,
frozen shrimp work like a dream for this recipe
We socialize by boating, and
Friends come by the pier and wave or visit from their boats
So we are actually practicing social distancing anyway
The guys love love to go fishing
Super Boy had great luck catching red snapper yesterday
The only way this year seems different to me is that the little things
aren’t bothering me…
Instead of groaning when I see a mess,
I think, everyone is having so much fun!

Hot fun in the summertime! 🎶 Your grandchildren are darling! What awesome poolside pictures and fun, great memory makers! Your food line up sounds so tasty. I am going to look up the recipe for the coconut shrimp and would love the cheeseburger quesadillas! The fried pickle potato chips sound pretty tasty too, along with the roasted tomato zucchini boats. Keep the recipes coming! So glad you had a great holiday with your family. Hapy suummer! 🌞

Happy Memorial Day, Jenna! That coconut shrimp sounds divine! I will be trying that for sure. I do now what you mean about everything looking so normal. I went to Pier One to pick up my final order from them (they had to bring it to me because I refused to get out of the car, ninny that I am), and the place was packed.
Coconut Shrimp is a must during every family weekend, we love it! So sad that Pier One is closing, I love that store!! However the last thing I need is more “stuff!” Good for you staying in your car!

We are headed to St. George Island today for the week. We have been going there for 17 or so years. Our grandson is a senior this year and headed to college in the fall. We haven’t seen them since Valentines so we are looking forward to being with them.

Oh Bonnie, I am so happy you will be doing your annual family beach trip! I’ve never been to St. George Island but have heard wonderful things about it! I hope the week isn’t rainy…but if you’re with family you’ll have fun anyway!
