Creations, Trick or Treaters

Are you ready for a little pre Halloween fun?

Our monthly Creative Craft blog hop is full of Fall

and Halloween crafts and ideas to share and inspire!

Thank you Andrea of Design Morsels for hosting this great hop

If you’re here from Debbee’s Buzz I know you’ve already had some Halloween fun!

I know Halloween is going to be different this year,

with trick or treating not recommended,

so I decided to make my own little trick or treaters!

These were inspired by the Peter and Paulette figures

in the MacKenzie-Childs new fall line

Nothing scary, just Halloween fun!

I decided chunky wood candlesticks would work for my idea

and sure enough, I found exactly what I envisioned on Amazon here

I painted them white first

and then took time to draw and color my vision for them,

One would be a witch with a pumpkin head

and one would be a sunflower scarecrow

I already had several wood balls in my craft supply

that were the perfect size for the heads

I glued them in place with a glue gun

The scarecrow head got a coat of very pale yellow ochre

The witch’s pumpkin head was painted orange

then some yellow strokes were overlaid on top

to make it look like a pumpkin

Next up, black and white checks

Time for faces!

And hair!

I used some natural excelsior moss I had on hand

You can buy some here

You could also use raffia, straw, cut felt, yarn, cut paper or colored paper

For the scarecrow’s hat, I used 2 shades of brown felt and a wine cork

and a piece of ribbon around the base of the cork

The witch hat is just a simple orange felt cone

glued to a black felt circle,

with a piece of spider web fabric coming out of the top point

Time to finish painting the bases

The scarecrow has sunflowers and stripes

and the witch patches of purple and green

and a playful mix of patterns

As usual, when I’m painting,

at some point I get so involved that I forget to stop and take photos

and all of a sudden these trick or treaters were done!

Trick or Treat!

I spent less than $15 dollars to create my trick or treaters

They are about the same size as Peter and Paulette

that retail for $250!

I don’t like to get out Halloween things until October

so currently I am enjoying my scarecrow

on top of my art desk in the kitchen,

next to a Pumpkin Patch tiered tray

Your ‘trick or treaters’ couldn’t be cuter Jenna and your scarecrow in particular put a smile on my face! I love your fearlessness and creativity with your paintbrush. I hadn’t see Peter and Paulette but they made the perfect inspiration!

  2. Jenna, the trick or treaters are adorable. This would be a cute project for EM, she loves crafts. Like Mary, I had not seen Peter and Paulette but they were great inspiration for your project. Enjoy the rainy day!

Jenna, once again your artistic abilities combined with creativity has resulted in a fabulous Halloween craft project! I honestly like yours better than the ones that inspired them.

  6. Not only are these festive and adorable, but I had to think what fun it would be to sit and do crafts with you! One day, I’ll show up with a glue gun and paint brushes and you won’t be able to get rid of my until I sit and play for a while. Great inspiration as always!

  7. Jenna how creative! They look adorable. Your drawings are spot on with the finished sticks. Great job. Happy Fall

Jenna, even before you put the hat on the witch I loved how cute she looked. I don’t paint near as well as you, but these look like I could do some of my own.
