Creations, Upcycled Gift Tins

I bet you have some of these lying around…
metal tins that previously held cookies, nuts or snacks…
They’re too nice to toss out,
and no doubt you’ve been saving them to re-purpose
or re-use for something…
Well, me too!
And then I got an idea…
Upcycling them to use for gift tins!
I made one for a music lover, one for a birthday gift,
and one for Christmas goodies
For the Christmas tin,
I first painted it with chalk paint* for a good base coat,
then I gave it a coat of craft white acrylic gloss
so it would have a shinier finish
When that was dry I glued the ribbon around the bottom
*chalk paint covers imperfections often in 1 coat
The original tin pattern in center of the lid still showed through a little
so I fixed that by painting a large round black circle
with craft acyrlic gloss and added a ring of dots
and a ring of red flat sided glass craft beads
Next I painted the Santa face with a series of dots,
pink cheeks and a row of dots for his hat brim then more dots for his beard
A white mustache, a red nose and cap, more dots…
Final touches of white eyelashes and a row of green beads
and Santa is ready!
Ho Ho Ho!
The music lover’s tin is covered with clippings from a magazine~
guitars, drums, sheet music and other musical things,
decoupaged on another tin, along with a few stickers
and a stack of beads for a “knob”
The birthday tin has a “window” in the top
so the receiver can get a glimpse of what’s inside…
The bottom is covered with a cute birthday theme tissue paper
and the top is covered with a coordinating green pin dot tissue
The tin is embellished with paper flowers,
glass bead “balloons” and faux packages
These tins can be filled with cookies, candy, snack mix,
a scarf, socks, or a gift card,
anything goes!!

These are just adorable Jenna! I love this idea to dress up leftover tins and especially your music lover’s tin with your cute 3D scrapbook music-themed stickers. Santa is so cute too and I love the addition of black and white check ribbon. ♥

Jenna, oh you clever girl! What a great idea with so many options to decorate and embellish. I never want to toss those tins and they tend to accumulate. Finally, a way to up cycle them while working through all the this and that little things in my craft stash.

Love them all, but my favourite of course if your hand painted tin! That one with the window is a great idea; did it come like that or did you cut it?

I usually put Christmas cookies in tins, but these tins are a gift all on their own! I really love your hand painted Santa with the buffalo check ribbon. Thanks for the painting tutorial, Jenna…I may be giving it a try! I would put a scarf or a hat and mittens in the tin with the window. It was fun hopping with you again! Pinned 🙂

Great upcycles. I now regularly “wrap” gifts in the tins that I collect for family members (who don’t want to keep them). I also use cloth gift bags that I have made. In the “old days” we considered it a “good” Christmas when we filled the woodstove 4 times with wrapping paper!!!! Nothing green in THAT sentence, is there! We’re a lot greener now!

Jenna, This is such a great idea! I would never have thought about up-cycling these. This is what I love about this monthly hop and seeing what creative crafty people come up with! There are so many different themes you could use for these, like you have shown! Have a very happy Thanksgiving!

I repurposed a lot of things with my kiddos when I taught elementary school. To them, it was like magic; for me, an affordable way to create. We never did anything this fancy, but I love your ideas. What a great way to package gifts.
