Fearless Friday, Bunnies, 3 Ways
I have been thinking Spring all week,
and what better way to think Spring than painting bunnies!
You can paint them hopping with a simple stroke,
or paint them with a puffy cotton tail…
Or paint them with a floral headdress
I’ve been traveling this week,
with little time for painting and creating…
These bunnies are some of my very favorites,
so today I want to re-share the method so you can make your own
As you can see in the photo below,
the hopping bunny is created with 5 simple strokes and a pink dot
- Paint a slightly curved stroke with a fat round brush
- Paint a circle for the head
- A quick stroke for the ear, starting at the head and stroking away, using the tip of the brush to create a point
- Add a cotton tail with quick dabs
- Let the white paint dry and add a small pink stroke on the ear and dip the brush handle in pink to add a dot for the nose
To paint the bunny’s rear,
- Start with a big circle {brown, tan, white, gray}
- Add a smaller circle for the head
- A couple of quick strokes for the ears and paws
- When the paint is dry, add cotton tail and pink to the bent ear and the bottoms of his paws
The watercolor rabbit is a little more complicated,
but this loose method is fun to try,
and it’s supposed to look relaxed and a little messy…
Wet the paper and start blending the ears
If you use a watercolor block your paper won’t ripple,
but this mixed media art pad will flatten once it dries
It pretty much looks like a hot mess at this point,
but when you feel that way, instead of setting it aside and starting all over,
keep going!
I felt the ears were too short,
so I extended them with a few thin strokes,
and began filling in the body and facial details
You can create a nice effect with using water drops
Adding color to them by touching with the tip of a paint filled brush
You can blot them,
tip the paper to make them run
or simply let them dry and see what happens
I was having trouble with the placement of the left eye,
so I waited until the painting was almost finished
to determine the proper perspective
Even though watercolor isn’t very forgiving,
sometimes you can scrub it out with clear water and blotting.

Juicy Details
You can use craft acyrlic paint for painting flower pots, bottles, etc. Let the paint dry for 24 hours, and then it will be pretty durable. For washable pieces such as glassware, use acrylic paint made especially for glass that can be cured in the oven to make it top rack dishwasher safe.

These are always the cutest things ever! I remember you doing Florabuny before and then I did my version and I loved doing them! The little quickie ones are darling. I love bunnies and it’s time to think about them — Easter is early is this year!

Flora bunny is the sweetest! She has a precious face and her headband is so fitting! Spring is on the way and won’t we all be glad! Wanted to let you know your “crazy” post the other day so lightened my heart I took a “moonlight walk” (at 11 p.m. hehe) and enjoyed the snow glistening by the light of my driveway lights. We have a long driveway and I walked it for about 45 minutes enjoying the snow-globe world as the snowflakes floated down. It was magical, with stars twinkling above and the hooting of an owl in a near by pine tree. It was exhilarating! Thank you Jenna for encouraging us to enjoy the simple things in life. They are the best anyway! 😄
