Buttery Almonds

These sweet and savory almonds are a wonderful addition to salads, vegetables and party dips. They only take a few minutes to make and can be stored in a jar and will stay fresh for weeks
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cool 15 minutes
Course condiment
Cuisine American

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sliced almonds
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • brown sugar
  • kosher salt

Instructions

  • Saute almond slices in a large skillet in butter and Olive oil over medium heat
  • Sprinkle the nuts liberally with brown sugar and Kosher salt.
  • The brown sugar will melt and caramelize on the nuts. Stir often and watch carefully so the nuts don’t burn. Don't walk away, this literally only takes 3-4 minutes
  • When they have begun to brown turn out onto wax paper or foil to cool. Store in a jar in your pantry or freezer. Makes 2 cups.

Notes

I buy the almonds in bulk at Costco and keep the big bag in the freezer. I make a fresh jar of these every few weeks to be handy for cooking.

  1. I also made an almond dressing for my salad some time last month, so I know from the first hand that this was a GREAT salad with lots of flavours, colours and textures.

Stay warm, Jenna as we experience winter again!

  4. Not only is it beautiful, it’s also healthy. The dressing looks delish too! Have a great week, Jenna!

  5. Marsha says:

Oh Jenna, The Asian dressing for this lovely salad sounds so delicious. Could I use peanut butter in the dressing instead of almond butter since I don’t usually have almond butter in the house? I fear it may change the entire flavor of the recipe though since almond does have a different flavor or taste. I will just have to find almond butter at the grocery store or order a jar online. I am so glad the recipe uses honey. I love your display of veggies in the pineapple bowl and artist plate. So healthy and flavorful. So pretty too.

  6. Nancy says:

What a colorful salad as colorful as your beautiful art! And your presentation on the artist palette is outstanding.
