Fearless Friday, Latte Cup

My sketch book has been gathering dust lately,

and I decided it was time to get back

to daily drawing by joining the April Doodlewash challenge

The prompt on April 6 was Latte

I found this photo of a steaming latte on Pixabay to use as my model

As I’ve mentioned before,

these monthly challenges are a great way to practice,

have fun, and see what you can create

Some days you have more time than others

so you can do what you can, when you can

A quick pencil sketch to begin,

then inked over

Originally I planned to color this with markers

After the first few strokes,

I quickly changed my mind and switched to watercolor,

adding shadows and blending in the bold marker stroke

Steam

Foreground shadows

A few details with ink…

“Latte Cup” 5″ x 5″ mixed media on mixed media paper

It’s a little wonky, but it was fun,

just a quick sketch,

and it did get me excited about getting back into a daily routine

Have fun and

Be Fearless!

Today I discovered a problem I have. I would have stopped at that first sketch deciding my work was not “perfect”. Somehow you always proceed to the finish line where the result is perfectly wonderful and highlights the difference between art and photography. (I know photography can be art, but art doesn’t always look like photography–and that is a good thing!)

What a fabulous picture to have in a home coffee bar.
I love it! Happy Friday to you!

  9. The “April Doodlewash Challenge?” How do you find these things? I just find grocery lists laying around my house! Such fun and totally brain – stimulating! Love it all.

You make it look so easy. I can do the sketching part…kinda…but painting? Forget it!

  11. Very creative and it also looks good enough to drink!

A photo is perfect, a little wonky is hand painted. 😊

So fun Jenna! You are so talented! I don’t drink coffee, but I love the smell of it – your drawing is so evocative, I’m over here inhaling! 🤣 Thanks for letting my inner artist live vicariously!

Reminds me of a cat I had, her name was Latte! Lol! Your painting turned out great! ☕️
