Fearless Friday, MacKenzie-Childs Inspired
I fell in love with MacKenzie-Childs,
a manufacturer of ceramics and home decor, years ago
I had recently started a glass painting business
and sold my pieces to retailers and at home shows
At one of the home shows I met a fellow artist
who painted ceramics in the style of MacKenzie-Childs
When I saw her pieces I was an immediate fan
This was how I discovered the wonderful creations
of MacKenzie-Childs
MacKenzie-Childs pieces are hand painted
with lots of colors and patterns
I do have a small collection of their pieces
that I have splurged on or that have been gifted to me
Sometimes, when I get the urge to shop {their things are pricey!}
I pick up my paint brush instead

When they came out with a new pattern in 2022, Leopard,

I wasn’t wild about it {sorry about the pun!}
but I decided to paint a bottle in that style
When it was finished and sitting on a Mackenzie-Childs cake stand,
I changed my mind and liked it much better
It must not have been very popular though,
because this pattern has already been retired
Fergal the frog however,
is still quite popular and is available here
I found an unpainted knock off Fergal the Frog at Hobby Lobby,
I guess I’m not the only one making knock-offs!
Once painted, he looks quite similar to the MKC Fergal
I’ve even drawn him

The MacKenzie-Childs catalog has inspired other drawings too

This is Jewelry Chest and Platter are painted with
the MacKenzie-Childs signature black and white “Courtly Check”
combined with colorful, whimsical patterns

Chef MacPig just might be my favorite MacKenzie-Childs inspired creation

I have had this pig for years, in fact,
I can’t even remember where I got him
He has loyally staffed my kitchen and held anything I asked him too
I decided he had earned a makeover!
His chalky pink complexion was looking tired and worn…
Ahh, the magic of paint!
Now for some pants and a red kerchief
Black & white checks on his sack, black buttons and tie,
and a touch of pink on his ears and cheeks
White dots on his kerchief and a dab of pink on his tail

A paint brush can be a magic wand!

Adorable, Jenna!
Thank you Rita 💕
Mackenzie Childs reminds me of another artist I love – Mary Engelbrite – did I spell either one of those correctly? Ahh, another cup of coffee will sharpen my mind. I love your “can do” spirit to get the look you want. You are so talented!
You are so right, Mary Englebreit is a long time favorite of mine too, I love her whimsical style!
It’s always whimsical and happy!
Yes!
I’m a fan of McKenzie Childs as well. I have a few of their pieces, and their Courtly Check flatware, but that’s it. I’d like to have more, but it doesn’t come cheap, as we both will know. I love your pig here! Just looking at him makes me smile.
Thank you Pattie! I would love to have some Courtly Check flatware…I am trying not to buy anything these days, I have way too much “stuff!”
I always enjoy seeing your versions of McKenzie Childs. Your piggy chef and Fergal are among my favorites as they make me smile!
Thank you, I love to paint things in the MKC style~
“Ahh, the magic of paint!” – yes, in the eyes of a seasoned artist like yourself you do create magic!
Thanks so much Mary!
I absolutely adore her stuff too! You are a magician with paint!!
Thank you Judee, I’m glad you are a fellow MKC lover!
Your versions of MC are always fabulous, Jenna. I was a big fan of Mary Englebreit, too! Whimsical makes me smile like your pig! Happy weekend!
Thank you Pam, I love Mary Englebreit too, her art is so happy 🙂
Love seeing your inspired and artistic designs Jenna! Your cousin to Fergal is a favorite of mine! 🐸👑🎨
Thank you Mary, as you can see, I love to paint knock-offs 🙂
Your inspirated re-creations are so cute. I love Fergal. You did a great job. The knock off. I just ordered Fergal sitting on the ball. He was on sale plus I got another discount for my birthday.
Thank you Linda! I love Fergal, he will be a great birthday present to yourself!
Your painted pig is so cute! Love the “makeover”! And I enjoyed seeing all your other painted pieces too – you are so talented 💗
Thanks so much Jill, it’s so much fun to add a little paint and transform something 🙂
What a fun post! And I like your chef’s makeover. He is one cute pig!
Thanks RJ, I love your new MKC purchase!
Jenna, you never need to buy another MKC purchase — your own are just as wonderful!
Oh you are sweet Jeanie, painting knock-offs is fun and it does keep me from buying!
