Fearless Friday, Fall Apple
Happy Fall!
It’s finally cooling off a bit and the leaves are beginning to fall
My thoughts are about all things Fall
and I thought it would be fun to paint an apple today,
since apples are such a fall icon

I made a collage of apple photos from Unsplash for reference

I like to start with a very light pencil sketch to establish the basic shape

Then I started with the light yellow green areas

Then I added a little orange

If you end up with a puddle of water
you can take the tip of a kleenex
and stick it in the puddle and it will absorb it

Next came a light red wash on the left side
and more darker red areas on the right

More darker red areas

This is what I call the “ugly stage,”
it’s usually as the painting gets closer to the finish,
and you have to be patient and keep going,
being confident that it will come together

I began working on the stem area, adding darker greens

I added the leaf and began to add shadows to bottom

More darks and then
Splatter!

I added a few small strokes to the stem area
so it looked a little more natural and it was done
“Fall Apple” 5″ x 6″ watercolor on mixed media paper

Thank you Pam! Happy weekend!
Jenna love your apple and I do like the splatter. You are so good at showing us how easy it is to make an apple look like an apple. The only problem I have is …yours look real. LOL. Have a great week-end and stay cool.
Thank you Kari, adding splatter at the end is lots of fun 🙂 Our temps are finally starting to cool, yay!
As a K/1 teacher, I loved doing things with apples with my students. Painting apples would be fun although “results may vary.”😉
Thank you Linda, apples are an icon of teachers too aren’t they!
Yes, they are! 🍎💜
